How Granny treated Magrat always made me look at her askance, like if this is your idea of helping her I suggest you stop before she explodes. Nanny Ogg at least knew to be kind to people.

At the very least she later admits Magrat's a good doctor because she puts in the effort to learn about herbs and medicine.

I haven't got to the TA books yet (I'm going chronological against all advice), so I'll keep that in mind. But even to the extent that she's cut herself off from things, she's so arrogant about how superior Common Sense and Simple Living are that it's hard to sympathize. Granny would hold so much about my life in disdain, I can feel it dripping off the page. Vivid character writing, but extremely unpleasant!

And so far I don't really get the sense that Pratchett doesn't see her as a moral exemplar when you get right down to the stuff that really matters. When it comes to 'who you are in the dark'. Granny being bitchy and provincial is funny; Granny's still the one who gets to have so many of the banger philosophical lines at the climax of Witches Abroad, or Lords and Ladies. And most of the fandom definitely adores her, which makes any fandom gripe 10 million times more annoying.

ayrt - honestly it took a lot of work. I used to use them as a distraction and eventually found it was more of a crutch and not helping my overall mental health (I think I had a bit of a "screentime" addiction) so I started working on limiting myself. It's been years now and I can finally say I can wait in line or at the Drs without a distraction to stave off a panic attack!

Not that I think looking at your phone or playing games during downtime is a bad thing to do! It just turned into a bad thing for me and my overall mental health.

I bet Jaskier from The Witcher is good in bed. Just because he seems to genuinely enjoy the whole thing in a fun non-selfish way. Like he's just here to have a good time and part of that good time is making sure his partners are also having a good time.

It has been a bad thing for me at times. I had some games I got addicted to and I had to choose to delete them but wouldn’t do that for a long time. I have a much better balance now so I only play them during those “I cannot do anything else” times.

People trauma dump on me all the time here. Somebody called me a cunt, another anon was seemingly replying to voices in their head, etc... I feel kinda sorry for them. I don't come here all that often so take it with a grain of salt. But anons need a place to vent. Dressing it in fandom clothes is a just a way to frame it as something other than a cry for help. I'd call it a support group. Like AA but for toxics/depressed/paranoid. There's something similar one of my manhwa discords, a vent topic but it morphed into a drink water meme because teenagers.

There's a recurring trend I see in fantasy games where because it's a fantasy world, if X is a widely known and accepted fact, then Y will be accepted with the same expediency and calm even if Y upends common knowledge about the world.

Very common JRPG example: People live in a world with lots of magic. It turns out, that magic is actually super ancient technology and everyone's living in a post-apocalyptic world, and the only evidence of that is a group of teenagers telling you this. Everyone who hears this promptly takes it at face value with no lost sleep over their understanding of the world being uprooted.

Sauron, though he'd only be doing it if there was something he wanted from you. Being attractive and seducing people to get what he wants is a big part of his character. He has a skill set.

Nope, I don't have any game on my phone either. But lately I'm not interested in playing video games at all, even on PC or my handlets.

when characters start out not liking eachother very much and end up besties/a couple by the end of the movie/show. Bizarrely enough, the only movie I ever saw where this was at all convincing was a very silly comedy, Blades of Glory.
