Why would you read posts that are IRL trauma dumps?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, if you don't like such posts, it seems like they'd be pretty easy to avoid.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-30 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Because attention whores often use the subject line to put their contentious and confrontational remarks right where you cannot avoid them in heavy bold text.

Idm venting people in vent threads, but in general I don't think this should be considered a cool or safe place to trauma dump. for the sake of everyone involved including the dumper. This whole place is more like a vent club than a support group.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm curious what you are referencing with this. We do have some people who vent about personal stuff, and regular venting threads, or people who ask advice and divulge personal trauma, but I don't really consider that "trauma dumping."

However we do have one (I'm really hoping it's just one) anon that I consider a troll that comes by now and then to threaten suicide and blame others for not being able to stop them. That person is pretty messed up.

But I'm not here every day and I tend to skip any threads that look like drama so I very well could be missing out on the exact comments you're talking about.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That anon is a bit much. They are always so mean too.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-30 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You are just a fraud from Electronic Foundation. Give up and kill yourself, you harasser of innocent abuse victims.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-30 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
See? Exactly what we were talking about. Insane and mean.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-30 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Use your account if you really are a Dreamwidth member. Say I'm insane and mean with your account name and full pigeon chest, hacker troll and fake nonny.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-30 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
you say the same shit over and over regarding me and that is how i know you are all a bunch of fakes while you all go "Huh? What? ??????" and delete my comments.

Yeah, that’s my experience here too.

I wish people would stop using every single fannish space as a random IRL trauma dump.

Like, personal blogs, or even personal posts? Sure, whatever.

But if I have to read one more ostensibly fannish post about how "I'm the only one who truly understands [insert generic popular character] because his big sad eyes in this scene reminded me of [insert needlessly detailed oversharing about trauma]"...

Where do you tend to see that type of thing? I feel like I’ve largely managed to avoid it so far.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
DA
I am not largely in fandom anymore so I have no idea where it would be seen, but I remember seeing posts like that way back in the day on LJ. They were definitely the minority and were largely ignored, but the people who posted like that did always manage to have a small following that just encouraged them to trauma dump even more. Those people were often also the ones that had a super special connection or soulbond with Sepheroth or Loki or something.

I think that's a knock on of people using fandom like their own personal trauma dump.

(Anonymous) 2025-07-01 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Just crawl back into the void where you came from, fake.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I find it tacky, but I also don't really care if it's on anon. People want a secure way to blow and steam and go.

I'm also confused what your definition of trauma dumping is, though? Is it just mentioning trauma or triggering things, or long drawn out detailed stories? The former depends on context, the latter case I'd agree. But lately I've mainly seen anons using their trauma to guilt trip or control people because of their triggers.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
People trauma dump on me all the time here. Somebody called me a cunt, another anon was seemingly replying to voices in their head, etc... I feel kinda sorry for them. I don't come here all that often so take it with a grain of salt. But anons need a place to vent. Dressing it in fandom clothes is a just a way to frame it as something other than a cry for help. I'd call it a support group. Like AA but for toxics/depressed/paranoid. There's something similar one of my manhwa discords, a vent topic but it morphed into a drink water meme because teenagers.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-30 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, is trauma dumping just being an asshole to people? I thought trauma dumping was just throwing your sob story/trauma out there when nobody asked for the details.
