Fuck. I found myself ready to jump into an online discussion to defend a fictional character. A character from a story I just got into. I don't even know their full personal history yet. I guess all it takes is the right voice actor and the right pragmatic attitude. I'm on their side immediately.

Since my father died, my fandom obsessions have gotten worse and my impulse control has gone out the window. I have spent so much money on dumb fandom things that I definitely don't need.

I loved the Wizard of Oz books when I was a kid. There wasn't just one book, there was a series! I read all of them multiple times, it was one of my favorites. I can't stand Wicked. I hate it so much. And I hate that "The Wizard of Oz” is now permanently associated with it, and most people don't even know there was more than one original book, and Wicked has totally overwhelmed the original works.

I mean not really. Not all of them anyway. But my mom burns them constantly and so many of them REEK. My stepdad actually hates them too but neither of us want to argue with her on this. I just wish that we could pick some that EVERYONE likes and she could burn those instead of these horrible ones. Some of them literally give me a headache and I have to hide in my room and use something to cover up the stink.

Nagging boyfriend

My boyfriend will not stop nagging the bejesus out of me to finish WoW Legion remix (a limited-time video game event). I cannot and do not want to sit at my computer and grind for hours each day. I have done A LOT and am chipping away at it, and there are still weeks left to go before the event ends. He will not stop nagging me every single day about it and I am seriously about to lose my shit. "You need to finish remix" "Yes, I have been working on it" "You need to get the quests done because there are a lot of them" LITERALLY I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE QUESTS EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY. I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND MY DAY OFF AT MY COMPUTER FOR 14 HOURS AND WIPE THEM ALL OUT. I'D RATHER SPEND AN HOUR OR TWO A DAY AND GET THEM DONE OVER A WEEK OR TWO INSTEAD OF MELTING MY BRAIN DOING THEM ALL AT ONCE. I tell him that, and he continues to say there's a lot of quests and time is running out. It is so hard not to snap at him over it. He has more free time than I do, so he finished awhile back. But I will get them done, and if I don't? That's my problem.

This falls into the category of someone nagging me to do something that I am doing (or nagging me AGAINST doing something I AM NOT doing), and that always pisses me off like nothing else.

Having never seen this movie, all of them besides the middle one are designed like one-note filler episode comedy side characters so I can't say I'm surprised.

Middle one has the generic k-drama look so I assume he gets all the story lol

I’m struggling to think of another example like Wicked, where it’s not just “adaptation supersedes the original in popularity” but specifically an adaptation that’s positioned as a subversion or darker and grittier version.

Because I’m very familiar with the slight resentment of movies that overshadowed beloved books, but I don’t think I’ve had to deal with this particular variation and it does seem like it would feel even worse.

That would make me so angry and so sad! I’ve had that with things I love where a tiny or nonexistent fandom suddenly blows up due to an adaptation. It’s always miserable for the fans of the original even if we happen to like the adaptation, too.


Personally, I don’t like Wicked because of their predatory “charity” that’s now owned and operated by Universal Pictures. They haven’t disclosed information that used to be mandatory and it may be because they successfully lobbied for waivers. Before Universal took ownership, it was just a super shitty charity that preyed on the kids who identified with Elpheba.

Ugh, that sounds awful. Strong scents feel like something that should really be an agreed-upon thing for the household. Like smoking indoors or playing loud music.
