The last straw for unfollowing a former mutual on insta was how she kept reposting reels about female empowerment, body positivity and "how dare you judge women for their looks" radfem content and at the same time reposting at least 10 reels mocking the actress of Eleven for how she looks in the last Stranger Things season. As if that whole mess wasn't at least partly because people decided she looked too old for her age and that surely didn't put any pressure on her to get into fillers and other procedures...

I hate the "Hero gets framed/falsely accused of a crime and everyone instantly assumes the hero is guilty" trope. The g hero spent years saving lives but nobody (even the citizens they save) wants to hear them out after they get accused of commiting a crime!?! It's even worse when shapeshifters/ realistic androids are confirmed to exist in-universe. THe fact the people are so quick to demonize the hero without even considering the possiblity of the hero being framed is quite telling. To me it makes it seem like either the townspeople either never really liked the hero to begin with or are just more gullible than a lemming.
Either way it makes me question if they really deserve the hero's help.

I dunno. If modern society and celebrity culture have proven anything, it's that people love pulling out the righteous fury and "I always knew they were secretly an evil horrible monster" the instant they hear a less-than-flawless rumour about the same person they were deifying three days earlier.

People love being morally superior a damn sight more than they'll ever love any specific person.

I agree that reality has given us plenty of examples of that, but I think the vast majority of them have had some kind of clear divisiveness, with loud people on both sides.

I’m not OP, but I think I’d dislike this trope less if that diversity of opinion was better represented. (Hell, you can make people on both sides wrong while you’re at it, sometimes the staunchest defenders of innocent celebrities are doing it for bad reasons.)
