I feel sorta dumb for being hesitant to get back into fandom. I'm finally seeing that a former fandom friend had done weird things that left me feeling doubtful about myself.

For example, towards the end of our friendship, my friend would jump into my DMs squee-ing about their faves and sharing fics they love. But if I did that, whether it was in response to their DMs or I wanted to share my own excitement on something I liked, they would always respond with a comment that undercut my excitement.
They'd point out something I interpreted "wrong" or they'd say things like how they can't stand delusional fans who get excited over the dumbest thing.

It felt like they were allowed to enjoy things and be unashamedly cringe as a fan, but I couldn't. If I did, they had to constantly point out how wrong I was. I finally stopped being friends with this person because I got the feeling they didn't see me as a friend nor wanted me as a friend, they just wanted a punching bag that can convert into a armchair therapist when needed.

I know fandomers aren't all like this, but I hate getting my feelings hurt. And doing the work of getting onto social media doesn't seem like it's worth the effort anymore.

I don’t understand the whole Bob Dylan thing. He kind of talk-sings, and his instrumentals sound like nails on a chalkboard to me. Yes, I get that he was a big deal in the '60s, but even in this day and age, with the music I grew up with, his songs and voice feel bland to me. I just can’t bring myself to listen to him.

For some odd reason, my brother loves his music. He listens to the same songs every morning—every single day. And my god, there’s one song with a harmonica that sounds absolutely unbearable. I have no idea what song it is, but it’s excruciating.

There is a lot I will forgive in this series if they make John Stirling an asexual king.

Bonus secret: If they make him asexual but not aromantic, I will probably cry tears of joy.

I love that the Super Mario RPG remake gave us the name "Goomhilde."

I don't get people who read ACOTAR (a romantasy about fae) and complain about the FAE having nonhuman features such as pointy ears, wings, hooves, etc. Esp on reddit where some people went on about how gross all those features are.
I mean FAE are literally not human. What did they expect ? A hot human with (maybe) a bit of magic.
TO me It feels like reading Ice planet barbarians and then complaining about the aliens looking/being aliens

I thought that fan artists were exaggerating (as usual) with their portrayals of Steve and Garrett of The Minecraft Movie.

But damn the movie WAS gay af!

I don't think Josh O'Connor is a bad actor by any means. But in very different roles, he had this perpetual look of stunned existential crisis/on the verge of tears/worried about trusting a fart kind of expression that I find very distracting.

What's a negative experience that turned you off of something, even if it's irrational?

Tired of feeling taken for granted and never appreciated

I feel like I try my hardest to do the right thing, but it never gets me anywhere except taken advantage of.

Most reliable person at work..ends up with the shit end of the stick because they know I'll put up with it

Does everything possible for family, tries to take care of things, helps family when needed and doesn't ask for help..family caters to the ones who are difficult and ignores me.

Steady friend, always available to help or hang out or whatever..ditched if a more fun, better opportunity comes along.

Devoted romantic partner..cheated on.

It seems like you have to be an asshole to get people to respect you. If you're easygoing and dependable, people just take you for granted and think it's ok to take a steaming dump on you because you won't complain and will still be there for them.
