But even in the main show we also saw him pop by and see Donna, Jack, Martha, Mickey, Joan's granddaughter, Donna and her parents etc. Again, I don't don't really get what makes Rose stand out with them. It wasn't like how he lost her was that tragic either considering being permanently separated is how he's lost a lot of his past companions (or dead in the case of Adric). And with Donna it was like they were platonic soul mates and she forget everything they did together. Surely that's just as, if not more, painful than how he lost Rose.
And thing is, I did ship them at one point years ago and I get why people like them as a couple. But I just don't get why even after all this time after she's gone, she's meant to be this big important thing in his life so much more so than the others. It's like every emotion in the Doctor is supposed to link back to Rose somehow.
Hell, the last person he lost who arguably meant something special to him was the Master. XD
