Agreed. There are good fics on that site, if you look for them. The moderation could be a lot better, but LJ isn't exactly perfect in that respect either.

I think one reason LJ might be perceived as having more high-quality fics than ff.net is due to the different methods of organisation. What with pairing-specific communities, rec journals, no limit on space for summaries, etc., LJ often makes it easier for people to get at the type of fics they want while avoiding the ones they don't. And the fact that LJ allows NC-17 material is another factor, I'm sure.

I've read both awesome and terrible fics on ff.net. I've read both awesome and terrible fics on LJ (and the most terrible can't-ever-unsee stuff was all on LJ). I've had great experiences as both a reader and a writer on ff.net, and will happily defend it. It makes me a little sad to see it called 'the Pit' so often.
