I totally feel you OP. One of the best stories I read in my life was a Weiss Kreuz fanfiction titled "Erinnerung an die Zukunft" by Chalcedony Cross. The writing was top notch and it made me cry at the end. Even now I'm reading stuff in the SPN fandom that I could swear were written by published writers.

Come to think of it, that might actually be true. When I was in the Forever Knight fandom I knew a published writer who wrote fanfic for that fandom. There was another one as well who was outed and her agent threw a fit.
