In the anime, I'd possibly agree.... But in the manga, there is a lot of development between Haruhi and the host club, as they slowly become larger parts of each others' worlds. It seemed like a pretty gradual process to me. And there are reasons that a few of the boys like her, that make a lot of sense to me. And don't happen overnight (in fact, it takes volumes, and in the major case, the entire series, pretty much).

But personal preference is personal preference.
