I can definitely see why you hate it. But isn't it the same as editing their acting scenes? Or applying make-up? I think it has to do with the obsession of ~enhancing everything.
Personally, I think small "imperfections" make a scene better because it looks more real (like Darren looking at the floor so as not to miss his mark during his first song).
