There are many books that are considered "classic" literature. They are important and still relavent today for different reasons. It really depends on the book as to why it is important. Thus, if you are asking why classics are relevent to society, no one can give you an answer without referring to specific examples.
So if you want to bring up a book that you feel is wrongly hailed as a pinnacle of human achievement when it is complete and utter SHIT, you just look like you're complaining about an issue that doesn't exist.
