Don't worry about it! Sometimes you have to hunt for good while to find a community your comfortable with. LJ's got its own quirks that seem to be present just about in any community, but I hate to think that you feel you have to fit in to participate.

LJ ain't a "great" thing, but I like it for the way its organized and somewhat easier to navigate. I mean I technically only recently got an account; loved F!S for years, but only eventually signed up for locked posts on hetalia. Pretty sure people are always repeating it here, but fandom really is what you make it to be. If dA and youtube are sufficient for your discussion times, what's wrong with that :D
