I'm leaving this comment all over this post, but, since I guess I'm in "Preach it!" mode, I'll say it again: You want variety in female anime character designs, watch the older, hand-drawn stuff. The annoying sameness in current, computer-drawn anime is a major reason why I'm not getting into most of it.
