It's actually not that uncommon, especially for actors/actresses who aren't particularly known for roles outside of whatever people associate them with. Or for people who are just really, really good at portraying a character as nasty.

Ever seen Ghostbusters? William Atherton, who played Walter Peck (the dickwad that made everyone's life miserable) apparently had, and still has, this problem. (According to IMDB, anyway.)
