Oh, yeah, I totally agree with you. That's why I stuck a YMMV on the end of "others' OC fantasies are typically not [entertaining to us]." I've read fics with OC main characters and OC love interests that are interesting and very readable, even after I developed more discriminating tastes. Even ones that seem to be some measure of wish fulfillment for the author. And some of my old wish-fulfillment fic that makes me cringe now (written at 12-13 years old) had fans, mostly other young girls my age. I just consider the good ones to be the exception rather than the rule, and I find that more people dislike OCs (particularly wish-fulfillment OCs) than like them. And regardless of the actual figures, OCs and particularly Mary Sues have become SUCH a taboo that the anti-OC viewpoint is politically stronger in fandom.
