#1. I hear you. I fell in love with that book, and I wasn't even a child. It's just something that always brings me joy, and I was so excited when I found out it was being made into a movie... and then so disappointed when I saw the movie itself.
It didn't ruin the book for me, though. I just try to see them as separate. I think Miyazaki had a very different goal and theme in mind when he adapted the book to film. That's fine; I just wish they'd changed the title, and said it was "based on" the book.
This just means that I try all the harder to get everyone I know to read and appreciate the book.
