I think the semi-interaction of English speaking fans and Japanese fans is probably why the English speaking fandom seems like it's huge and should be more active on LJ.

The T&B fandom in Japan (finally lost some holds on the illustration/manga rankings due to UtaPuri but still dominating in the novels/fanfics rankings in pixiv) is probably four or five times the size of the T&B English speaking fandom and Tumblr leeches off of pixiv. There's just way more material coming from Japan which keeps tumblr's T&B tag busy at all times which ends up making the T&B fandom in the English speaking world seem bigger than it really is.

I'm not really sure if this "Japan posts stuff, tumblr reposts" stuff counts as a proper interaction though. It's more like an one-sided interaction in a way.
