Well, she writes basically for English majors or people who are massively familiar with certain authors/poets, so most people would definitely be bored to tears. I passionately adore her books, but that's because I love the same writers she does, so I get all the references, and also I just liked the characters a lot, I dunno. But not liking it/finding it interesting definitely doesn't make you dumb, just means you don't like her style. I doubt many people do, tbh.
