I like to think people can just be friends, close friends, without any sort of romantic or sexual overtones at all. I wouldn't ship someone with their same-sex best friend if they were both straight, even heterosexual life partners don't get shipped.

I wouldn't ship the one-off gf either since she was clearly a plot device for said episode.
