I admit, I'm not too keen on some of the old designs (silly, but I rather enjoy the FFX Aeons when it comes to appearance), though I would agree that the newer (FFXII/FFXIII) summons are downright stupid-looking (I say that and XII is my favourite of the series so far. :P). The wholly mechanized looks just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
