my issue with Embers is that though it's excellently written, I felt it got too caught up in its own mythology and kind of left some of the original ATLA elements behind... I don't mind OCs, and Embers has a lot of well-written OCs, but I kind of wished for a bit more focus on some of the ATLA characters.
Also too much of the characters' issues were explained as personality traits of the nation / culture / spiritual whatever, which edged out their personalities a bit, imo.
/my two cents

I actually find manga a little harder to understand, if still generally more enjoyable.

Sometimes when you're flailing around with someone, limbs get everywhere and somebody gets hit in the face. It happens to the best of us.

Both of you seem very into what you're doing and that's the farthest thing from abuse. Don't worry about what other people think if they don't get that you can do that stuff consensually.

I agree with this secret, tbh. I like Korra but I'm far from loving it as much as the original series for basically this reason. The character development is ok, but not stellar; however, the pacing is abysmal, and the premature focus on romance is pissing me off.

The past two eps have been a lot better, but still.

lol, this.

0/10. This secret is about 3 weeks late.

If that's the only think you see in Dreadwing then I'm sad cause you obviously don't see that he differs from the other characters in more ways than just by being the possible side switcher. He's no more dull than many other cons there. Or is someone like KO somehow more compelling as a character even though all the guy has done is being this shallow joker who keeps failing at everything he does? KO is shallow both in personality and as a character. Doesn't mean we couldn't still like him though cause he's funny to watch. Also, your attitude is the kind of short-sighness that rubs me in the wrong way. They introduce a new character and you start yapping how someone else could do the same deal and yadda yadda. DW's history, relationships (he actually CARED about someone), personality and fighting style (and actual competence in battle) already makes him differ from the rest so I don't get why people seem so hellbent on calling him a bad character.
And just for your information: him being bland is only YOUR opinion. Fine if you don't care about the character but don't say it like it's the truth and only way there is to look at him.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the fallout from that was ridiculous. I loved Breakdown but Airachnid is hardly the evilest bitch to ever evil just because she didn't let him pound her face in with a hammer. There's plenty of other reasons to dislike her, why pick that of all things?

Oh definitely. I was expecting a jazz-centric anime that was somewhat original and had a nice band-friendship going on.

I'm not opposed to slice of life per se, but this anime just seems to consist out of drama for the sake of having drama and I feel like there's so much more interesting things they could be focusing on instead. Now they just have the characters fall for someone in a manner of a day and then making it seem like the world's most important romance ever. I just feel like it's all been done before which is such a shame because I had high hopes for this show.

Somehow I keep watching in the hopes of it becoming more focused on jazz... I'm just setting myself up for disappointment, I know.

I think it's a nostalgia thing mostly. I've been to Disneyland in Anaheim and Disneyworld. It was fun but I don't feel the need to go back either.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of Americans don't travel internationally. Less than a third of the population has a passport, and those stats were even lower before trips to Canada and Mexico required them. I think that a lot of people just aren't used to travelling outside their comfort zone and dealing with other cultures, currency, the hassles of long trips, etc. So places like Disneyworld are hugely popular for family vacations and they've successfully marketed themselves as a resort destination for adults, too.

and that she thought my brother looked like Gaston.

AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's so awesome.

I haven't even been out of my home country, guess I don't deserve to go either!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call it poor writing, but I see where you're coming from, yeah. I don't mind romance plots, but here they just don't feel very good. I mean, whenever there's action and plot and politics and non-shippy character interactions, but show really shines.

Then they go back to the overcomplicated love triangle that I do not give a shit about.

Amen, anon.

I'd be interested in everyone's headcanon on the Avengers members' sexuality.
Poll time?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Also.. he was bland WAY before he got near Starscream? ... wow! He was like in... 2 episodes before this? So you decided he was bland the first time you laid your eyes at him? Great attitude there. You have certainly given him a great chance as a newly introduced character.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my god OP, can I just like... be you? My boyfriend would never do this for me. I'm incredibly submissive and he doesn't even want to SPANK me. And then Loki/Natasha on top of that? guhhh I am near tears at how perfect this all is.

Know that I am obscenely jealous and mega happy for you.

[identity profile] swaggerdoodle.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe they really are that excited for their OCs? =D

[identity profile] spud14.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
natasha.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not calling him a bad character. I'm saying I personally think he's bland as all hell. Love him if you want but don't call me short-sighted for not liking him. Yeah, he cares about someone and if that strikes something with you fine, it doesn't with me. As far as I'm concerned he's like Dinobot only duller. If you don't share that opinion fine, but that doesn't mean it's just so sad that I'm so shortsighted and can't see the wonderful truth like you do.

Knockout's shallow and I don't give a crap, he's hilarious to watch. Dreadwing is not that entertaining to me, if they do something to make him interesting to me great, otherwise I still won't like him. That's how character opinions work.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Since everyone else is too polite, I'll bite.

She's so incredibly gauche and classless, it's almost obscene.

And she seems to come from that whole culture of empty superficiality and intentional ignorance.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the OP, and it wasn't because he turned me down that he's an asshole, it's because of how he did it. I poured out my heart and soul to him, and he said "That's great!" in a way that sounded to me as very glad, took me out to lunch the next day, and then he avoided me ever since, never even telling me that he didn't like me, but when he stopped talking to me and removed me from his friends list on everything and wouldn't return my call, that's how I found out he rejected me.

I used to get this at our local fairs, but the stands don't seem to be around anymore qq
