I'm 22 and I've never been to Disney World, but I desperately want to go, tbh. Why are you judging people for wanting to go?

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know much about Australian cinema so correct me if I'm wrong, but international box office is a huge thing for almost any country, including US cinema. I just looked it up and it looks like the budget for this was 27 million Australian dollars, which isn't bad for a movie (it's certainly not going to be a huge flop, whatever happens), but that's still a lot of money. Making under 4 million opening weekend, while big for Australia, isn't going to cover that movie.

Filmmaking is a business, so when it looks like this movie didn't even make its production budget back, they can't make a sequel.

I don't really care for Snooki - we'd certainly never be friends. But I agree that the hate towards her is ridiculous.

D: They're not making the second part?

To be honest, OP. I'd never heard of it until it was out of theatres, so I have a feeling it was the result of shitty advertising. And when I DID hear of it, I admit I went, "Ew, Red Dawn remake?" but I watched it anyway, and it was really quite good, even if it was very similar plot wise to Red Dawn. I really enjoyed the characters.

Sadface if they don't even 'straight to DVD' the second half. ;_;

I kind of agree. I actually enjoyed the romance subplot until episode 5 happened and it completely revolved around it. I don't remember A:TLA EVER doing that. Yes, the romance was there, but it was understated. NEVER the sole focus of an episode; usually mixed in with the main plot and the action. Korra has not had enough action, IMO.

Right now my Korra OTP is Korra/Avatar State because I wanted to see her go bamf in episode seven all over the equalists (trying not to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen the ep yet).

While I admit that I prefer the ST and HP fandoms and I have read some of really great fics in those fandoms, I'm sure there are some great writers in Twilight fandom too. In fact, the cool thing about Twilight is that the canon is not so great, therefore the fic has the potential to surpass canon quality-wise.

[identity profile] urplesquirrel.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, chill out, "old timer". Things that aren't that good, but are insanely popular, have always existed and they always will exist. Is Justin Beiber/One Direction/etc. really objectively any worse than Backstreet Boys or N'Sync? No.

Supernatural, Star Trek, and Sherlock's fandoms are all more LJ and AO3 based than FF.net, which means they, obviously, get fewer reviews. Harry Potter fandom is winding down because there's no new canon coming out anymore. In it's heyday, the epics used to get thousands of reviews, too.

In a few more years, Twilight will be most forgotten and some other super-popular YA series will be getting hundred of new fics per day that get thousands of reviews. You're just looking at the past through nostalgia-tinted goggles. Tell the new kids to get offa your lawn.

There are American comics around that haven't been running for decades, y'know. Try one of them; there's tons of awesome series to be had (some as short as three issues, others around twenty or so)!

Also, be sure to give European comics a try as well. Although you might be a bit hampered by language barriers if you don't speak French or whatever, so -- like the anonymous person above said -- 2000 AD is a good bet. Especially the older stuff.

I love K/S too, but that doesn't mean that S/U is an awful thing. I'd like for a canon K/S relationship, too (or a canon homosexual character/relationship of any kind), but...

But don't beat yourself up about abandoning ship or whatever; tastes change. :)

[identity profile] lit-wolf.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Me personally, I care more about who I go with. So yeah, my friends and I are no longer in the target age range for Disneyland but we would love to plan a group trip there, if only for the nostalgia. Disney was such a huge part of our childhoods (and even now too, we still love to watch Disney movies, especially with fun drinking games) and we still love it dearly.

But go where ever you want, OP. You certainly won't be invited with us to be a little cloud of negativity hovering around us. We're going to go and have some fun!

How about bi? I could understand the surprise if most people lump bisexuals into the "gay" category and assume they're also counted. Identifying as gay is pretty specific and exclusive considering the spectrum of queer people that exist.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't mean that any of them are. Statistics don't work like that.

Surprisingly I didn't come out of it slashing anything too much, just shipping Natasha/Bruce like burning and finding out that it's an unpopular ship.

[identity profile] pts.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally agree. The writing is atrocious, too.

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
First of all, consensual violence during sex =/= abusive relationship, and smdh at people who can't tell the difference.

I'm much the same way, for what it's worth - my boyfriend and I recently started experimenting with him dominating me (I'd made it pretty obvious that I loved dominance), and despite his initially saying that he didn't think he'd be into it... let's just say he definitely changed his mind. I so wouldn't mind a black eye or bruise or something because of mind-blowing sex. Is it weird that I would almost want some kind of mark?

I wish I was comfortable enough with my boyfriend to roleplay, though, but I'm glad that you and your husband were able to do something like. Loki/Natasha = quite possibly my new ship in the making tbqh.

[identity profile] samsom.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
If anyone asks, tell them the truth, and then laugh delightedly. They'll make up their own minds how much of it is the truth but no one will think you're in an abusive relationship, not with the clear smile on your face.

Beats the time I kneed my husband in the jaw the same day he had a root canal.

Oops.

Hey, sometimes elbows just happen.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS. I've actually seen people claim that favoriting something is just like leaving a good review... and then they complain when their own fics don't get any reviews. *facepalm*

Leave a frigging review, people. It's not that hard.

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Get off your high horse, OP. Some people are perfectly happy to spend a few extra bucks to go somewhere where they can forget their troubles for a short while.

Some people travel. Some people go to the theatre. Some people love fine dining. Some people love renowned museums. And some people fucking like theme parks. As long as they're not dragging you there, why the hell do you care?

[identity profile] joshua-glass.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that was my thought... really OP? It sucks he turned you down, but it happens (it happened to me in high school), but... rejecting someone doesn't make them automatically an asshole...

Also, maybe try and watch the movies under happier circumstances, remember why you loved them in a way that doesn't connect them with him?

I'd hang out with Richard any time, but I'm pretty sure Hyacinth would drive me 'round the bend in about .2 seconds!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you fail stats forever.

On average, about one in six people in the world is Chinese. About one is Indian. There's six people here. Take your guesses.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
lol move on tbh and just because someone rejects you doesn't make them an asshole. I can see why he rejected you.

[identity profile] dangercrow.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
it sure burns my britches when young people like things i dont like

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as you're not trying to ruin people's fun (and you don't sound like you are), I don't see the problem with critiques. I personally love critiques, myself; knowing a show's shortcomings doesn't necessarily mean I'll start to dislike it.

[identity profile] my-midevilmind.livejournal.com 2012-05-20 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
...i always thought that meant "of fucking course" idk why. never bothered to look it up. but it would be so much awesome if it really was what op thinks
