didn't read all the comments, but am I the only one here who watches the show for its action scenes??

and because Korra is a female lead in an action-adventure kids show?

and because Bolin, Tenzin, Korra, and heck, even Tahno + Lin Bei fong are legit entertaining to watch?

...also Pabu?

...no?

...okay...

P.S. If anyone's curious, I actually find this series way more immersive than the first series. Social Unrest? Political struggles? Boxing/MMA-inspired sports? Chasing down Equalists on Motorcycles? Fantasy 1920's vibe? (plus better animation??) I'm sorry, but there seems like there's so much more here to play with (at least to me, for some weird reason)

To heck with the shipping, I'd still watch this show even if there weren't an ounce of romance in it. As is the case with every piece of media I enjoy- I always end up wishing they'd not have so much romance!

Maybe they're saying that Korra is going by too fast? (like its being rushed?)

That's what I hear most people say anyway, heh @_@'

Umm ... you sound unreasonably snarky over a very reasonable question. A member of the Avengers has prominently been left out and surprise surprise, it's the chick! Everything in fandomsecrets is often too much srs business, I agree, but everything in fandom overall is massively concerned only with boisex. So you must have left her out on purpose just so you could say "Oh, I'm a bad person look what I did OMG HEE."

This! I had an annual pass for a while a few years ago, and it was a great place to go chill out for me. Sounds strange, but I'd go during off-peak times and go watch the ducks while drinking coffee. Sure I could find non Disneyland ducks to watch, but WHY?

Also it's the most incredible place to people watch EVER.

I'll admit it- the gray morality was only there 'til...maybe episode three...? But it seems like the more threats/promises Amon makes, and the more action he takes...the more things get like: "Oh. Yeah. This guy's just jealous of benders. I guess he didn't have any strong points/arguments after all".

I'M LIKE...CRAVING CIVIL UNREST AND POLITICAL MUMBO-JUMBO....not in a convoluted, extreme/boring way, but, like, I want good points to be raised! like- in their world- is "bending privileged" even a thing?? Why is Tenzin on the council if he only represents Air Benders and his father's legacy? Is he just there to make sure things don't go astray? Why are there no non-benders on the council?? Y THEY NO LISTEN TO THEIR PEOPLE?

....

I would just wait and see, but I have a feeling they're just gonna go down an "Amon is wrong, he has to be stopped!" kind of path, instead of making things deliciously heavy for the older audience...sigh.

same :( I liked the gangs and even the protesters.

I'm not saying there isn't. Rather, I'm saying that there's no conflict. Since it is a new universe, how the characters were paired in TOS has nothing to do with

And the differences are huge actually. Don't forget that there's been notable changes for an entire generation. Kirk grew up a far, far different man. Spock set some things in motion, but saying "K/S was in TOS! I HATE S/U NOW!" is a bit much. Everybody's is different now, and things will and should go differently. When I say should, I don't mean the ships in particular. But butterfly effect means that you shouldn't be able to make things end up exactly the same, even with spock pushing them back to per-divergence everything shouldn't lock up again to be like TOS after this point. There's risk of that sort of thing when you change a few seconds of time then set it back. This, again, was an effect allowed to resonate for YEARS.

Vulcan is gone! That's so many storylines that can't happen now, and many more then presumably will.

No, no going back when permanent changes have already happened.

Tl:DR, too much has already changed, shit like vulcan being destroyed. This universe will never be the same, dont' get so butthurt over different' ships being plausible for what are actually different characters.

What the fuck? I never talked about that I have a problem of them disliking characters I like. I personally love Starscream too but I at least have enough sense to acknowledge that he's still a villain. A very cunning and selfish villain. Claiming him to be something else and villainaizing someone like Optimus in the process IS ignoring facts. It's a different thing to say that "I think Optimus was a bit harsh" than "OMG Optimus is a total dick! How could he not love poor misunderstood Screamer! This was totally uncalled! (Nevermind all the past crimes SS has done!)"
By your logic everyone can claim whatever the fuck they like about the characters and all those opinions should be appreciated, even when the canon material is slapping you in the face with totally different FACTS!

Pema mentions "watching my soul mate spend his whole life with the wrong woman became too painful so...I confessed" in an ep.5...How is someone your soul mate if you're not romantically involved with that person? Big IMO, I can't help but think that sounds awfully conceited and naive of Pema. Tenzin did decide who he ultimately wanted for himself so that's fine, but should Pema really be giving that kind of advice to Korra and her daughters? Just look at what Korra did with it afterwards >___< Meh idk. It just sounds so messy.
You can still be deeply in love with someone, even if you're not romantically involved with them. Pema was shy, so idk, maybe it only happens with us shy girls. But I suppose more realistic people would brush it off as more like lust, or entitlement @_@ Pema was probably a believer in twu luv, destiny, and all that good jazz.

Or maybe she thought it was too painful to see Tenzin trapped with someone who was drifting away from him. Lin & Tenzin were both drifting, but situations like that aren't fun for either party. Plus he may have already had some feelings for Pema if one measly "I like/love you!" was enough to snatch him away.

Bah, ignore me @__@ Its nearly 9AM and I haven't slept at all..

I still agree with everything else you said though! (I could add to the list of reasons why I dislike Mako as of right now, but I babbled enough already XD'

Not a ghost exactly, his spark is immortal due to some odd mutation. It's everlasting and apparently industructable, never joining the matrix, though his body can be destroyed. He ended up possessing waspinator, getting on the team by virtue of "I'm significantly less incompetant than Waspinator, and I can use personal pronouns!" and of course, starting a plot with Black Arachnia to depose Megatron about 10 seconds after he was let on the team (seriously, like seconds later she approached him all "you're full of shit" and he was all "Yep. And you didn't call me on it back there, so you want in, don't you?")

Starscream floats for untold cycles as a bodyless mass, and remains as true to himself as ever. His dickishness is eternal!

The joke was he was only gay for horses. I wasn't being very serious, I just wanted to get some people who didn't read the myths to read that fucked up story of the time Loki birthed a horse.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-21 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Consider though, that with each curbing the other, the Law itself may have been shaped differently. We saw in that other What If that if Cap and Tony managed to resolve the issue without conflict, they turned the SHI into something everybody could live with. Presumably this universe could have similar alterations.

[identity profile] goatsfoot.livejournal.com 2012-05-21 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a LARGE number of closeted men in this world. In my town the nudist beach is hopping with straight looking dudes after dark, plus an escort I know who's pre-op trans says she & so many others get a LOT of trade from men who are so closeted they can't even suck dick on a dude. It's a huge badly-kept secret.

In some cultures and communities male homosexuality was/is common or considered the norm in certain contexts; fishermen in Pakistan, the Festival of Light in Burma, tribal practices in PNG, etc... Definitely more than 3% going on with the male population there.

Definite closeting/underreporting. Definitely.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-21 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't know quite enough about the old triangle to claim betrayl. We know that (assuming all narrators are reliable):

Tenzin and Lin were having problems for some time.

Pema already knew Tenzin and considered him a Soul Mate (We know she was an Air Acolyte, it's very possible they had a long and deep friendship platonically at this point)

Even when these things go off as smoothly as they can, that doesn't mean nobody will be hurt. Lin being the obvious example. And maybe it didn't go the way I just suggested either. But we don't know enough to say either is definite, though I'm inclined to believe that as they all seem to be genuinely good peple, there wasn't too much outright "betrayal" happening. For all we know, they'd have broken up, Pema or not.

At least you left the Makorra camp though. It's filled with the Zutarian!

Sorry but I just see K/S as bros (must be the only one here) I'm not very shippy with TOS tbh

I don't get the big fuss about this, what JJ did is nothing that the writers of the other movies and/or the novels hadn't already done before (ehm.. hello Spock/Saavik? and Kirk fell in love with a different girl in every episode) At least JJ Abrams stated that his version is set in an alternate reality so you know he's allowed to play with it a bit and explore the potential of different things. Nimoy himself (the guy who originally played Spock) supports the Spock/Uhura relationship.
No one ever made K/S "more than friends" because.. well, they simply aren't more than friends, at least not the way you want them to be more than friends.
Gene Roddenberry threw a bone to all the fans: he envisioned the Kirk/Spock relationship as a platonic love between two guys that saw each other as brothers but he didn't object to slash fans; he supported Spock/Chapel and he thought about ending it all with them getting married and way before that he had wanted to pair Spock with Uhura but he couldn't do that because it was the 60s.

He was still a lady horse when he gave birth? Because I'm getting terrible images here.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-21 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Tsuritama and SnK are only similar for the first episode. After that they diverge massively becauese they are trying to tell very different stories. Surely you've noticed that school or romance don't really feature in Tsuritama at all, and the focus of the story is about the mystery of the island and fishing?

I do agree that SnK had the stronger opening episode and Tsuritama suffered in comparison because of the similarities, but that's only the first episode...

I am really enjoying your rationalisations here.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-21 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
this.

cover one's ass= (idiom) an action taken preemptively to protect oneself; make excuses or otherwise take action to avoid being blamed for having one opinion; also used to hide one's true intentions.

~ I hate this ship so much that I can't stand I have a problem with I don't accept understand why other people are liking it. I want to put some bashing but I don't want to look bad by doing so ...but HEY if I'm pretending to be saying that I'm a former fan of the said ship I won't look biased about this, right? And by saying that I could try to prove that even the fans of my rival ship could 'see the light' and get converted they just haven't watched TOS yet and didn't read all the amazing fanfictions and all convincing recaps. Gotta love pretending that my shipper is getting validated by the rival shippers ~

/show.

Star trek is just like any fandom.

Yeah, he was still a horse. It's implied that he couldn't turn back until after the foal was born.

[identity profile] lovelycudy.livejournal.com 2012-05-21 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That's better.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-21 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Bruce? SUB?

No.

Consider that Hulk is effectively his Hyde. His unbridled ID given mortal form.

Does anything about Hulk look SUB to you?

Bruce is dom. Bruce is angry fucking dom. Bruce is so full of rage he grows mass just to express it.

No, if he actually let himself go and didn't have to worry about transforming, Bruce would give you hard, "break the fucking bed" sex.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-21 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No no, she has a point.

Don't worry 2nd anon up! A lot of guys do fetishize you!

Seriously. Like, a lot.

so the OP sez upthread it's about "discussing who does it for you out of the MEN from the film"

Yarrr, that's fine except you DIDN'T say that in the secret. But it's implied anyway, cuz the assumed object of desire in LJ fandom is men, isn't it?

And who does it out of the MEN? Whatthefuck does that have to do with "guessing" who isn't into women, ie GAY? (Your pretext re stats and secrets was pretty thin but whatever, secrets are often pretexts for discussion/wank)

I mean, the "guess the sexuality" game is fun, I'd play it THAT way. But your wording & assumptions, eh, so heteronormative and biphobic. Not super offensive or anything, just kinda ignorant.
