7. Personally, making an RP with two of my friends is one of the funnest things I've ever done in fandom. We built something we all could agree on wanting, implemented it (Wiki for rules, data, character profiles + bboard for the game), and have been going ever since.
One of the things we did before we ever started, though, was one of us put a post on our LJ that outlined both the game-concept and what we thought the rules would be, and then invited our f-list to comment. We got a pretty good bit of feedback, since a) we were planning to initially recruit from my f-list, and b) most of the RPers on my f-list are talkative. That helped a lot.
We started with five players with one character each, including the three of us who built the place. We've grown to thirteen players and twenty-six characters. It's been about, oh, three months since we started the game.
I'm loving it, and actually buckling down and making the game has been a great experience.
