...But there's plenty of "boring" people like she described in fandom. All she needs to do is reach out a little.

hi dethtoll

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I like porn-free spaces, since the places that allow porn are flooded with it.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This comment is probably the exact reason why OP made a secret. Like someone said below, like what you like. Once "open-minded" people like you start being dicks, though, congrats--you just lost the only basis you had to feel smug over "boring" people.

His misogyny pisses me off. I know half the time he plays it off like it's his bipolar, but no. Being bipolar isn't an excuse to be a total dick about women.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah, people keep saying that, but that's still a pretty high-pitched voice for a man his age.

I don't mean anything condescending or judgmental with this but what exactly do you mean by "being" a wolf or a dragon? I thought furries were those who liked reading/watching porn with anthropomorphic characters. I never knew there was anything psychological or personal involved.

I don't get the connection. Yeah, smoking is bad for you, but people do it anyway. In modern day. Quite a lot of people depending on where in the world you're talking about. So why wouldn't that apply to characters? And what is a good reason?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
This so much! All those sentamenal dramatic movies where we're suposed to empathize with the struggles of the main character usually just leave me rolling my eyes at the over the top dramatics and angst. Especially when it seems like the characters go out of their way to make the problem worse before figuring out that the answer was right infront of them all along.

Granted I'm also an asexual introvert so natrally I'm not going to get those movies where the main character is sad and depressed because they haven't found the perfect man or women in their lives .... but still...

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with this exactly. Like, I'm sure he is witty and interesting, but there are some things that are difficult to ignore. If you hate any group as blindly as a some gay men hate women, I'm sorry, you're just not any better than the homophobic assholes who hate you.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
...have you honestly never heard of fursonas?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, this. I can't see any chemistry between them at all and it annoys me that the show keeps on shoving them down my throat. Ugh.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my god op this is almost exactly how I feel about this ship along with the relationship me and my own little brother had (only I'd say I'm more shizuo and he was more izaya)

it sucks because normally shizaya would totally be something I ship, but since I've lived it, I can't enjoy it. at all. =|

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly have no idea what you're on about. Where is said discussion shutdown taking place?

Considering what fandoms are like I'd say you are the unique flower. I know you may feel alone or ordinary, but there's definitely nothing wring with what you like or don't like. A lot of people come to fandom to get what they can't get from the original material. If what you like is what is generally present in the original material dig deep inside yourself and see what it is you are looking for in fandom. And it's nothing beyond het and vanilla, then that's fine too.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS THIS THIS GODDAMN.

I get that he's bipolar. But since WHEN does being bipolar excuse one from being a total fucking sexist asswipe????

Squirtle is both adorable and badass. I'd rather be a squirtle than a wolf, and I think wolves are pretty cool.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
But...people smoke. Even knowing it's bad and all that. I'm not sure what you're objecting to exactly, or if there's some sort of moral thing I don't understand.

Do you also judge modern AUs where characters eat junk food? Consume other drugs? Have unprotected sex? Drive fast cars? Wear fur?

You confuse me, OP. :/

I have to admit when he first appeared on screen it took me back because that was the voice of a teenage character... but in today's episode ... it just sounded like General Iroh II and I didnt hear a "teenager's voice'" anymore.

So yeah not bothered by it and now I'm just in danger of loving a cartoon character : )

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like it when a movie/tv show/book/whatever presses too much and too obviously on the "drama" button. It really is off putting.

But I've cried over a movie in my life. Once. Mainly because it spoke to me and felt relevant at the time, and I was in the mood to cry over it. I think you just have to fall on the right thing at the right time for it to happen.

I have a really odd-shaped nose and even though it could be fixed with Photoshop, it wouldn't look like me anymore. They still look like themselves. Plastic surgery would also change the way I look only to a very small degree, or so I've heard. So when I say "I want to look like them" I mean "I don't want to look like an alien."

Yeah, I'm not the majority, but still. Sometimes it's not meant all that literally.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I like the good stuff he says and does but then I remember the other stuff and I just cringe, because being bipolar is not an excuse.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
There are still people who read gen and porn-free romance. It'll never be super-popular, but that shouldn't stop you from writing what you like. If it's well-written, at least some people will read it.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-23 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You're in a fandom set in a high school, and every other episode has something to do with relationships or being gay in high school or being a virgin in high school or babies or something. The nature of the show should clue you in as to what's going to be popular in fandom, and gen ain't it.

Fair enough, I do think that wishing to be that beautiful can be harmful. It's just that some people are naturally gorgeous. Obviously no one can look like the pictures in magazines or in ads, because of photoshop. Maybe I'm ignorant but I don't see much harm in being a fan of someone and gushing over their beauty, if you acknowledge things like the photoshop, like the fact that no one can look like people do in magazines, and the fact that celebrity culture can encourage an unhealthy body image. Which most people do not, which is probably the problem. But while I acknowledge all these issues, I also feel perfectly fine gushing about how naturally beautiful Ishikawa Rika is (and she is naturally quite beautiful; unless she got plastic surgery at 14)
