I think writers are mostly exaggerating.

I do think though that sometimes, some people get a little spacy after sexual activity, kind of pleasant and floaty.

I've mostly seen that from BDSM though, rather than sex. I suspect when it happens to some people after sex it may be similar chemistry stuff going on.
