2. Okay, bit late to the party, but I have a question. Why does everyone keep calling Near an L clone? I mean, maybe I'm just crazy, but I'm seriously not seeing how his personality is similar enough to L's to merit such a label.
That said, I admit that I stopped reading Death Note for a few days after L died, because goddamn, did it ever hurt. I also admit that I liked the second arc considerably less than the first. However, the former confession has absolutely no bearing on the latter. I liked the second arc less because, in my opinion, it's simply not as well-written. Near is wonderful, and so is Mello, but the plot basically devolves into a whole lot of 'he doesn't know that I know that he knows that I know that he knows, so I'll do this-- but OH SHIT, what if he works out that I'm doing this because he would figure this out if I did this other thing in an attempt to keep him from discovering that I did that to cover up the fact that I realized that he would realize...'
