Oh, OP :(

I mean, in a way I kind of agree with you. The Irene Adler aspect is pretty much the one thing I really wish adaptations would take more cues from canon for, because I think the resolution to it is so cool. To Sherlock, she becomes ~The Woman~, but she a) beats him and b) doesn't really give a shit about him and runs off to marry the man she actually loves. I mean, come on! This actress (read: whore, to contemporary readers) from New Jersey waltzes in and beats The Great Monied English Detective, who seems to think women are at most lovely distractions, at his own game! It's fantastic! Why is this not what everyone goes with?! I don't get it.

Instead, you get the RDJ version (who's in love with him and gets killed by Moriarty) and the BBC version (who's in love with him and needs Moriarty to do all the stuff she does and then has to be rescued by Sherlock). I really, really, really hope CBS!Sherlock doesn't go that way, but we'll see, I guess?

The one thing that I am hopeful about in that regard, though, is that he's the one who appears to be totally caught up on her and whatever she did (thus far; the previews show some letters from her, which....mmmm, I won't pass judgments till I've seen it).

Also, to be fair, CBS!Sherlock doesn't seem to have the same issues with women other Sherlocks are portrayed as having, which is one of the best results of having a female Watson (besides it being Lucy Liu, obviously). It was those issues with women that always makes me yearn for an Irene that just doesn't give a crap about him, so I guess I don't need it as much.

He was my favorite too!

(Anonymous) 2012-11-09 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Because the US is the only country that thinks that. Oh, wait... :|

(Anonymous) 2012-11-09 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Not in the fandom, but I've run across enough people who legitly believe that a woman whose abused actually *deserves* it, that I could see people using this reasoning, sadly. Particularly if it's for a celebrity their a huge fan of.

And when I mean Lestrade I also include Gregson, dumb dumb me.

Seems funny to condemn that by judging another type of relationship you don't personally approve of though.

FASHION THREAD!

Today I realized I dress like a twelve year old boy who recently became a grandmother.

So tell me F!S how you would describe your style. Or, if you had the time and money, what your style would be like.

And just think. If the rumours had been true we might have had Maggie Smith as the villain out to get M instead. Maggie Smith.

...

When will this madness end!?

And, just for the record: rainbows are kinda musty and bad smelling.

OH MY GOD THIS. I have no interest in seeing the film but I read a couple of articles on Bond's "first gay villain" (or is he canonically bisexual?) and it made me want to bash my head against a wall because way to reinforce the "gay = creepy sexual predator" mindset. JFC.

What do you expect with so many dicks out on it?

I feel so, so sorry for this guy. I mean, tumblr stalks him, twitter impersonates people he knows to try to meet him, dreamwidth imagines what intimate parts of his anatomy smells like.

I'd probably move to Antarctica and never go near human civilization again.

I think the OP is condemning the "that slut deserves it" mentality in their fandom though. So hopefully not a troll.

I haven't seen this movie (so clearly personality might count towards it) but physically they all seem about average to me.

Pride

Yesterday we had the thread about what features of your body you'd like to change. Today, what would you consider your favorite/best feature?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. The US actually is getting more accepting of that [though, like always, there are going to be people who 'stick to their guns' no matter how wrong they are] - the reason I specified the US there was because the OC specifically mentioned the US - not because I actually believe it.

Eclectic goth. Bright colors are my favorite, but I love the goth style of clothes.

Barring that, if I could dress like a teacher at Hogwarts, I'd probably be happy, too. I'm sure a lot of my favorite clothes would fit in pretty well in Diagon Alley.

Every time I see you icon, I mistake you for a person in one of my fandoms and think "WTF ARE YOU DOING HERE".

I have a very neutral personality. I tend to get along with mostly everyone.
