Exactly. It's the nature of the beast, working in shared universe under contract. You don't get to create something that is yours and yours alone. You want to have final say in where/how your characters end up, you'd better be making some creator-owned comics.
The thing is, Kid-Loki was good. Gillen writing him was good. But the attitude of "kill him off so no one else can ever write him and spoil him" is no different than Liefeld's hissy fit about Shatterstar, his baby, his creation, being written as gay (after decades of build up), or him complaining about Deadpool being too campy now that he's written by other people. That's what happens in a shared universe. If you can't share your toys, you're going to look like a jerk.
All that said, I haven't read many recent JiM. I love kid!Loki, and I've been waiting for the trade. I can't help but hope maybe Gillen's just stringing folks along? Still more than a little mean-spirited.
