I SO miss the battle system in episode II. It's so...watered down in episode III and a bit too easy.

MOMO was definitely a powerhouse in episode II- I miss that, but I definitely took full advantage of her and kept her in my party most of the game. <3

(Anonymous) 2007-08-17 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
The cutscenes are a unique part that belong to Xenosaga alone! <3 I love epic space stories and am thoroughly happy that they made such a great game out of one.
The second just had a very intriguing and touching story- I honestly don't understand why so many hate it. I have never been so enthralled or moved by a game before in my life.

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely! :D Yaaaay this community is awesome friending-grounds~. ♥

(Anonymous) 2007-08-17 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
The poor guy fails SO hard in episode III that it is painful to watch. XD But I laugh at it. Allen makes me laugh and I cannot deny it!
Despite everything in his way...he still tries SO hard. And he whines a LOT and yes, he's a wuss- but I think that makes him realistic!
My love-hate relationship with him is immense and I do so love to torture him in my head, but it's all part of the fun! XD

Please tell me where you RP him! I'd love to sit and watch. :D
That is, if it is on a community. :3

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. XD It took me a while to get it... and next time I play I'll forget which form was which until I'm getting my ass handed to me. I love waiting so it stayed since it was like lol much easier!

Do you play him on an LJ RP? :O

(Anonymous) 2007-08-17 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
He should try changing out of that uniform once!

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh exactly! XD Eventually it just gets better and better, and III probably has the most cutscenes but III was omfgjdflkgjdlkd *_*

YES! XD I had a couple of iffy problems with some of the dub changes for II, but URTV backstory and the battle system once you know how to wield it makes it so so great.

Allen's complete and utter fail is exactly what makes me adore him. >D!

And oooh! I see, I thought it sounded like you were, I loev seeing other Xeno-RPers. :D

[identity profile] eiei.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
15. I agree with you completely. Allen is the character I love the most in Xenosaga. His voice actor is also the best one in the game, so much emotion in the voice and portrayed him so nicely. And just like you, even though I totally think Shion doesn't deserve Allen, I do love Allen x non-bitchy!Shion.
Maybe it's because he loves her so much that I just want him to be happy =P
or the fact that Allen is so lovable, it's contagious and makes even Shion seem ok when they are together...lol iono >_>
My other favorite Allen pairing is with Assistant Scott =P
They both are tortured by bossy Shion and Professor. ^.^ Both needs lots of love.

[identity profile] runic-binary.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, me too :D

(Anonymous) 2007-08-17 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
He's quite dorkable and the biggest wuss I have ever laid eyes on- but that's what makes him realistic. And, aw, he's just worrying over Shion (okay, and maybe his own ass sometimes!) half the time.
The man tries SO hard to not...well, fail, that I just feel bad for him! We all fail [at times] trying to tell people we like them, but he really sticks with it instead of giving up.

Oh god, I thought I was the only one pairing him up with Assistant Scott. XDD! I never saw the anime, but I heard they got drunk together? That's amazing. XD

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I had a method, but I can't remember it now. Then again, my magic levels were really low and I had to have someone casting magic a lot while I built up my EP and stuff. I'm still really lucky I beat it the first time through. If it had taken two hours to lose I would have cried. The only time it changed form on me was when I had it down to, like, 1000 HP left and I attacked it with a guy and it was rotating and... Dear lord I almost lost then and there.

Yeah, I do, but it's kinda a private one or I would, like, attempt to get people who know Xenosaga well to look it over so that I could get opinions on my Allen.

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I wanna see. I heard he gets a bigger role in 3, and thus it would help me refine him as a character even more. Alas, I don't even own the first two, I just borrowed them from a friend of mine. Beat them both in under a week apiece though. I call that skills considering the length of cutscenes and stuff.

Allen is probably the most realistic character in the game. The closest you even get with any other actual named character, IMHO, is the guys of the Elsa, and even they aren't all that normal. Hammer is really smart, Tony is a player, and the Captain is a drunk. Which leaves Allen to fill the every man role, the every person role really, and he does it rather well.

And I must agree, torturing a character can be half the fun sometimes because it helps to create more depth to them. No truly well adjusted person has had a wholly happy life. I cannot abide by that.

It is on a community, but as I've mentioned, it's kinda a small private group thing with my friends and as such we're not supposed to give it away. Sorry. I wish I could though, just to get outside opinions on my use of Allen. I also wish I could find Xenosaga RPers to play with so that I could evolve Allen through actual interaction with those he would know.

People thinking him crazy for talking about Gnosis really make Allen whimper.

[identity profile] yami-chan.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
15. Yeah, I don't agree. I buy games to play them, even RPGs. I'm a huge believer that cutscenes should be few and far between, like in the old games. We could have easily played most of the scenes that instead we watched for like 15 minutes. And I know some people have said that it's like watching a movie but if I wanted to watch Xenogears, I'd just download the anime or a recording of someone else playing the game.

16. Outside is over rated!

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I think I beat it the first time around too, but with me it was probably horrible luck as I sucked at the battle system on my first try.

Oooh, ahaha I know how that is. I am always paranoid over how well I play my characters in RPs. ;.;

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm okay with OCs, but I've got several new canons I'm playing for a few things so I'm nervous with all of them, and since I've researched and studied Allen the least, he worries me the most.

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I get the same way. XD Even though when it comes down to it I try to make sure fun outweighs anything else cause then I just get blah.

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. Playing Allen in one of his mini-panic attacks is very fun.

3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 13? Oh, and 8/WTF secret.

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
3. I thought he was great. I loved that book, which surprised me because the year before we had to read Great Expectations and that made me want to claw my eyes out. Which is sad, I can enjoy almost anything when it comes to novels.

I wouldn't say that I loved him, but I sincerely support him being the first character you loved. <3

4. Wait... People do that?

Everyone has their own issues with certain things. Obviously that's a more serious issue than 'this character and this character are gross together. Stop it.' If they actually like each other despite that difference, maybe it's something you can grow to accept one day. But I don't think too many people would blame you if you didn't.

6. IAWTS. So much. I've always played and related to the weaker side characters that no one wanted. I always got that character to myself, because no one else cared. So, playing more popular and well known characters makes me uncomfortable. There's more pressure to make everyone happy, and I feel like if I'm going to be keeping said character from others that would want to play him - I better be doing a damn good job.

I'm also paranoid about the fanbrat association in a lot of things I do.

8. Broken.... Although I couldn't help laughing, because... Well. WTF-secret. What.

9. I've done that! with mods and with people that are just that good. I always feel insecure when I'm like "this characer looks cool, I want a chance to play with them." and find out, Oh shit. That's the boy/girl that runs the game.

10. I completely support this secret, and hope things go well for you. I know that I rush to my f-list when my friends post. Whether it's entries or fic, or whatever. And of course everyone has their own unique priorities - but maybe you should try talking more about whatever you want to talk about. If you post a fic, bring it up to your friend and see if they want to discuss things. Ask them where you need improvement, if you're worried asking them what their favorite part is might seem too much like stroking your own ego.
I don't know, I love seeing my friend's writing, fic or otherwise. I wish they'd post more in general, so I feel for you so much. I'm sorry you feel underappreciated.

Boring secret is boring. But I didn't find anything boring about this secret, good luck. <3

13. I mean this in the nicest way possible: but I'm seconding your 'this is really sad.' line. It's good that you enjoy them, but.... That's a touch extreme.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-17 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've noticed all the cutscenes in III, it's intense. XD!

Oh god I HATED KOS-MOS' voice in episode II. She sounded just HORRIBLE. D: Olivia Hack did an okay Shion, so long as she wasn't forcing herself to laugh, and MOMO's voice grew on me...I actually like chaos' new voice. And despite the graphic change and ALL that- I still thought it was a great game. None of those changes mattered as I focused on the story. :O
I really...had no trouble mastering. I got advice from one of my friends and off I went. I think my battles were even shorter in episode II! XD

Allen is more than just the resident comic relief! He makes an EXCELLENT punching bag, too. XD

I would LOVE to do Xeno-RP. But, ugh, I will never, ever join a community RP (can you blame me with all these scary secrets floating about? So negative! D: ). I don't have any Xeno-fans I speak with over AIM, either. XD
I'd love to watch a community one, though! :3

15. Xenosaga's cutscenes are a hit or miss with people. You either love them or hate them. I personally enjoy them, but I also understand some people thinking they were too long. Hello, 45 minutes of scenes between the rescuing of MOMO and Ziggy before playing again.

Oh god, I cannot stand Episode II's battle system. ._. Combination attacks weren't worth using, and the only way to win was to break the enemy and knock them down/up. It was a challenge to figure out the break zone and stuff, but other than that, it just gets super repetitive, and the computer was cheap in the way it didn't have to follow the same rules you did. I'm in the minority when I say I like Episode III's battle system the best. (Most people like Episode I) Yes, it's more "traditional," but it was the one with the most varied gameplay, meaning I actually didn't just spam the same moves over and over again like I did in the first two games.

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
A-AHAHA YES KOS-MOS kind of made me. Cry on the inside and now I'm curious if her voice in the animation will be better or not (since the American release for the anime coming out has an entirely different cast :O) MOMO and chaos got so much better especially in Episode III. *_*

See I was always too lazy to waste time stocking and setting up ether swords and stuff. Which wound up in wasting MORE time since battles were hell without them. XD;; I FAILED.

And oh man I can't blame you, I wish there wasn't so much negativity. Or... I know a lot of people judge, but I'm all for the judge silently thing. I have noooo idea if there are any Xeno-specific roleplay communities, but I see a number of different characters in a lot of crossover ones and I play in a crossover one myself. XD An active Xeno-specific one would be fun to watch or be in.

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh his dub is fabulous. *__* And totally piling on the Allen/not-bitchyShion love.

BUT YES ALLEN AND SCOTT OMG. I. I feel bad that I deleted my icon from the anime with their drunken love.

I'm surprised people are shocked about this one, but then again, I've been lurking out in the South Park fandom for a few years now and the amount of Cartman/Kyle slash is a bit overwhelming. It's not the same thing (though in essence it kinda is), but I hate it too. It just seems a bit degrading and insensitive.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-17 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I actually just started III myself! I...recently finished the first two, so I'm still much a Xeno-n00b. XD;;
And that certainly is skilled! It took me...a month and a half to finish the first two, but only because I was in the process of moving. :x

I agree with this, actually. I don't think I ever considered that. Given the circumstances, I think anyone normal would be near wetting themselves when dealing with half that stuff. But you know what I just recently noticed while rewatching a few cutscenes? Allen is wussy, yes, but in episode I when KOS-MOS awakens, Allen is the only one that isn't looking about ready to faint. That was pretty gutsy for him! Though I did laugh my head off all the times he was cowering on the floor in episode II. XD
He's great to watch and I look forward to all his scenes!

Ah, it's okay! I wouldn't ever dare join a community (though I would LOVE to participate in a Xeno-RP)- what with all the negativity and harshness I see on fandomsecrets about them. D: I do all of my RPing on AIM and such (but don't know any Xeno-fans on AIM, go figure D: ). Have you considered asking a random friend to try one on AIM with you, on the side? Maybe that will help. It's also nice because it's a bit faster paced instead of waiting for a post. :3

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I was in a rush as I'm moving away for college on Tuesday. I spent my summer to one last burst of fun. I'll have to get ahold of 3 soon enough because chaos's past confuses me.

Allen was probably quivering inside. He only survived the awakening on Second Militia because he wasn't there that day and all. But Allen is strong for Shion, and she doesn't deserve that.

None of my friends do AIM RPs, or Xenosaga, so I'm not going to get any in any time soon.
