I really don't think it's as deep as everyone wants it to be. I've always been in the impression that we're supposed to be in the mindset that everyone wants to have sex with Bond, no matter what, so when it happens it's no big deal.

Did she fight against him? I don't get these "rape" issues. Again, I think everyone is reading WAY too deeply into something that is just supposed to be stupid stereotypical Bond stuff.

:)

I will definitely do so.

I am the OP, but a couple people have already given my reply: She wasn't recovering from a traumatic situation - she was IN a traumatic situation. Yes, maybe as a person she did have the ability to grant consent, but it's a grey area until she says "yes" and she did not say that. She did set up the champagne for him, but as she's been a SEX SLAVE most of her life, I would still take that to be, "This might just be your programming and as you are still actively being victimized by your entire situation, I should just walk away from this."

And after the champagne and expectation, him showing up in the shower after making her think he abandoned her was a super-dick move. This is the same Bond from Casino Royale, so I thought he would be better than this.

Hey, I happen to think it was a meeting of two broken hearts who recognised the hurt in each other! ...OK, so maybe I'm overanalysing it slightly. But at least I'm using dialogue and actions that were actually there!

From what I saw, she was actually looking forward to a nice evening with him, should he make it to the boat alive. When he eventually shows up, she seems to enjoy his attentions. In no way does she indicate that she doesn't want to have sex.

There is also, contrary to what has been implied in this discussion, no hint that she thinks she has to have sex with him to get him where she wants. His object is to get to her boss, and the mission her boss has sent her on is to get him there. She even tries to dissuade him from going. Twice! Despite Bond being her last hope of being free.

I mean, looking at some of the older films, there are instances where a woman actually protests, and Bond simply holds her down until she relents. It's pretty mind boggling to realise that it was accepted as romantic at the time!

It kind of disturbed and amuses me in equal measures to see how gender-based double standards reincarnate themselves into feminism.

Yes. I do think people are trying to be earnest and good, but they're forgetting to think things through.

The worst I've had leveled at me is someone calling a character of mine a bad rape victim.

Without having rad the fic, all I can say is that it sounds like people forgetting that not everyone is the same (again). You get it for less serious topics too; a man wouldn't do this, a lesbian wouldn't do that, and so on. As if every character is a representative of the "average" or the "typical"! I mean, you have to look at the specific character and determine what's realistic/in character for them.

Anna died in May of last year, and I still miss her horribly. She was pretty much the best dog. You know, ever. We had dogs before, but Anna was really, really special to me.

Anything by Korpiklaani.
Half of their songs are drinking songs!

Sadly OP if you drip feed information and not choose your original words correctly-aka you made it about 'the snowman' issue more than anything else- you can't expect much more then people have given. There's been no bullying merely observations made on the information you have supplied. You didn't have to put in reems of information , a simple 'he spoiled me for the *entire* episode (every twist!) when I'd avoided even seeing the trailers' would have covered it all.

If your friend spoiled you that much, did you tell him he was being a wanker? Did you stop him mid-way and say 'don't fucking spoil me, that's shitty?' Because it sounds like you might want to next time or just plain avoid interacting with him, he sounds like a fucking walking episode guide if he gave you that much information and if he knew you hadn't seen it that's a pretty shitty thing to do. It's like people that get straight on facebook messanger to tell you about the amazing twist in a show that aired 5 minutes previously and you are about to watch on +1.

I don't understand why Batman is so... I don't know... forgiving(?) towards the Joker. I mean, he shot Barbara, beat his adopted son to death, endangers his family, what he did to Tim Drake in TAS, kidnapped and hurt Alfred... also kills countless people. If I were Batman I think the Joker is the perfect acceptation to his no-kill rule. I seriously fear that he might kill somebody in the Batfamily, which I don't want to see -_-

I really did like the Joker/Batman relationship and how he was a perfect villain for him, but the more I look at the stuff Jokers done I don't want Batman to show him any mercy at all.

Is this a comic or a tv show? Because if they *hear it said* in the show, and still say it wrong, that must get really annoying.

OP, I always like it when shows pronounce 'Lara' as LAH-rah instead of saying it like it's still spelled 'Laura'.

[personal profile] 30_rock_office 2013-01-14 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

SMASH

So crappy, but I enjoy every minutes of it. My sister and I yell, "Norrington!" every time Jack Davenport comes on-screen. Debra Messing's son is hilarious because he's a total idiot who can't act to save his life. Karen Cartwright is beyond a Mary Sue. It's a train wreck, and I can't stop watching.

Thanks for the well wishes, anon! :/ I didn't get my vacuum due to the blizzard but whatever, I'll manage! I'm seeing if I can go tomorrow for it. :)

People do not understand the lengths we go to to hear nothing about episodes, and don't get that getting spoiled even a bit can be really upsetting. Sorry your ex was a dick.

From the information you gave us, it still looked like you overreacted-- and you did.

Had you mentioned from the start that he elaborated on important plot points, you would have had a much different response from people. The secret sounds like you were upset over him telling you about SNOWMEN-- and only the Snowmen.

Ummm I can understand where you're coming from, but that was in the basic episode summaries. It's not really a spoiler. ._.;

Why, didn't you know? Actually arguing a point by assembling facts and logic into a coherent argument is completely passe. Now the first person to label the other as an "apologist" wins the argument, automatically.

Latecomer here, but let's not forget Garfunkel and Oates! (I'm very fond of "Just You, Me and Your Friend Steve".)

And I don't think anyone mentioned Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey yet?
