I watched 23 just the other day and have fallen head over heels for him in it (Really, I think his comedy stuff is so over the top, it loses its funny anyways), and I know lots of people 'apparently' don't like that movie (WHY?! It was GORGEOUS. HE WAS GORGEOUS) but I thought he was absolutely amazing and I want to find his other serious films just to compare.
It's not often that I see a movie I want to watch over and over and over again. 23 was that awesome of a movie.
He doesn't get the respect he deserves as an actor because of his sense of humor, but you're not alone. I actually think most comedy-driven actors do their best in serious parts (like, say, Robin Williams)
