Re: inb4 "DIE SCUM DIE"

I think we're having a argument of definitions. I believe that something can have a word that describes it even if it is not a significant force or major concern; I conclude you do not? I suppose I can understand your argument that applying the word misandry inflates a minor problem to a significance it does not deserve, but I feel that the battle should be over the significance of the word, not its existence, because negative sex discrimination against men does exist, and claiming it doesn't makes you sound silly.

We don't say that a disease doesn't deserve a name because it's too rare. It doesn't mean E. Henry Thripshaw's disease should get the same amount of research funding and awareness and testing and everything else we give to diseases that kill millions every year, but being rare and globally unimportant doesn't make it not exist.

And I do judge -- in a "I am weirded out" way -- people who are interested in unlimited animated boobs and asses, because I'm not as open to others' kinks as I should be.

Thank you for the links! I didn't expect there'd be a lot, maybe a fic or two. I'll give these a try. Clearly, that .gif needs to make its way around fandom.

Plus, Spartacus himself has never been overtly popular with the fandom, so maybe that has to do with it.

...Why? Maybe this is weird, but he was one of my favorite characters (granted, I've only seen Season 1). Now I'm wondering where all the love is going. I want to guess but none of the options seem quite right.

Re: OP

Thanks for the suggestion! You're right, and I do want to watch some different productions. I'll definitely check him out.

Yes, it is a problem, and does need to be delt with. I'm not denying that.

What I'm saying it that it's not the most pressing issue from a feminist view point, and that it's not nearly has horrible, or as wide-spread a problem, as the everyday abuse women face all the time.

Hehe, glad to be of service? They had fantastic chemistry for sure. There isn't much of a fanbase though, so that's a bit of a downer...

I linked an anon to all the Spartacus/Varro fic I could find on the web here -> http://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/765167.html?thread=633718511#cmt633718511

Well, maybe I should've worded that differently... it seems people love Andy!Spartacus (and they are right to!), but even then there doesn't appear to be much fanfic about him. Maybe he was too well written and heavily explored that people just didn't feel like writing fic about him, or maybe they just don't particularly ship him with anyone. IDK.

Reactions to Liam as Spartacus seem somewhat mixed (as with most things, honestly; some people think the character is too 'soft' now to, but that's one of the reasons I like him so much *shrugs*), but I still adore him and think he's one of the more likable characters on the show. Still, it's sort of hard to ship him, and people LOVE shipping, so...

Plus, most the fic in fandom gets written about Agron/Nasir, and a decent amount about Barca/Pietros. Most of the side characters seem to be more popular than Spartacus, though.

My proof can be found in every history book ever written.

It's a truth known by every woman weather she admits it to herself or not.

Having lived a life around these things for thirty five years, I really am 100% certain there is nothing positive to be found in the Y chromosome.

The male psycology is made of nothing but hate and violence and systamatic abuse, and I am absolutley commited to my beliefs on this.

I think word origin is different from people co-opting the word to further their own agenda. The fact that it is often used by MRA types to promote misogynistic ideas is unfortunate, and a good reason to be careful about using the word. But it doesn't mean that the word doesn't exist, or doesn't have a legitimate definition. Misandry exists because it's possible for a person to hate men. I think a better argument is whether it's worth using "misandry" to describe that. Personally, I would hesitate to describe hatred of men as "misandry" simply because it does, to a lot of people, become conflated with larger, societal forms of prejudice like sexism.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Misogyny is a serious, pervasive social problem, and hating men is comparatively much less common. Men don't suffer from misandry like women suffer from misogyny. But that isn't the point. There are times when bringing up hatred of men derails from discussion of what women face, but this whole secret is about how the OP feels about the treatment of men on a particular show. It's not talking about larger trends or problems.

I think hating anyone is a problem. I can sympathize with why some women become wary of or even hate men in general, based on their experiences with them. But it's an uncontrollable reaction, not something to be lauded. And in any case, hatred is hatred whether it's a common or arguably justified form of hatred or not. That's why blanket statements of "misandry doesn't exist" don't sit well with me. I think people understandably want to combat the rampant idea that members of oppressed groups are being "hateful" toward the majority groups just by existing or fighting for their rights. But suggesting it's impossible for someone to hate a majority group is just inaccurate. There will always be that person who really does hate men, or straight people, or white people.

I don't think we really disagree on anything you say, though.

Aw, thanks, anon! <3 Now I'm kind of curious as to who you are...

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
people that don't understand that misogyny and misandry are the same fucking thing because they stem from the same fucking weird bigoted whacked-out feelings and actions and both of them hurt everyone no matter the gender of the people involved

I miss her like this...

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
But since she got with Brad she has kind of gone downhill in the looks department.

So many anime/manga have anatomy issues, it's like I don't even notice anymore >,< (I'm looking at you CLAMP!)

Yeah, Sho def has his problems. I love how determined Kyoko is to make her dreams come true and kick his ass along the way, haha. +1 for Ren love <3

Huh... I didn't see that movie really pairing them at all. And Holt seemed as interested in Claire as Jackson was (the "Jackson's got great taste in girls" line). Honestly, I'd love to see more of that relationship, not just for how they three of them would work it all out, but also because it would show the main characters dealing wit normal people more, which I like.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, except I'm totally into father/son slash anyway, so it's not surprising.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I agree completely. The only time we ever see Remus even close to happy is when Teddy is born. At that point he's happy because of his son, not his wife (and has a few glasses of alcohol to boot).

To me it always seemed like Remus made so many excuses because he was too nice to outright reject her, & even that may not have worked. Plus we know that one of his biggest faults is that he wants to be liked.

You sick fuck. You are one of the most disgusting people I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. Raping boys is okay because they grow up into men? There's something seriously wrong with you.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
No, but he could have told Harry when they were havinbg the big, emotional conversation while dead, since they were talking about love anyway.

It was pretty clear to anyone with the faintest slash goggles, which doesn't count as being canon.

Re: inb4 "DIE SCUM DIE"

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I did not ever say it ws okay.

I only mean that it is not as bad as the rampant misogyny that those boys grow up to be a part of.

Not in any way saying it's okay.

Re: inb4 "DIE SCUM DIE"

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No. No. Hurting an innocent, defenseless child, no matter what gender it is, is the worst offense in the world. That you don't see this is frightening and disgusting, especially if you're the molested anon who posted earlier. You if anyone should know how terrible child molestation is.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Javert arrests her and tries to have her sent to prison/the galleys for fighting off a man who put snow in her light dress after heckling her for multiple hours. Valjean protects her.

A few months later, as she's ill and dying, Javert comes to arrest Valjean. She basically has a panick attack and dies.

So. Yeah.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I shipped it in the book and I would totally ship it in the movie (Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman yum)... if I could stand the singing:(
I'll have to make do with animated gifs, I guess?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Valjean and Javert?
But what about Grantaire and Enjolras, i.e. the unrequited love story that ends in tragedy? Everytime Grantaire appears in the book, Hugo seems to go: "I'm not saying he's gay for Enjolras, but he certainly acts like it."

Re: anon

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with you, OP. I don't post here anon because I think there is something wrong with my opinions or views or because I'm ashamed of myself, rather I do it because I can't trust other people's motives. Too many times on LJ I saw people stalked, ridiculed or ganged-up on by a user (and their posse) harboring an imaged and exaggerated sense of unforgivable offence over a comment

Even on FS I see certain usernames being ragged on for previous comments (one username gets called a 'rape apologist'?!?!?) with the effect that anything they have to say is disregarded and marred once some fuckface comes along and points it out

I myself tend to ignore the comments of those logged-in because I don't trust what they are saying is honest

+1 to this! I love TMP and watching Mindy love herself has helped me love me.

i don't understand the flack you are getting for your comments, i pretty much understood what you were saying and tend to agree :S
