It's fair enough though, isn't it?

5. I remember reading Jane Eyre in high school. It was an ok book but sometimes the drama was way too much. I don't know what people see in that book other than the typical Cinderella story. Though the book that tops it all and that I absolutely hate is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. URG! That book is way worse than Jane Eyre and until today I haven't seen a person who hates that book like I do. I guess people have different tastes. :|

11. DIABLO! <3 <3

12. Pence is awesome!

20. Rocko's Modern Life. Aaaaw. So many childhood memories!

25. LOL. Don't worry...you're not the only one who laughed so hard watching them. xD

35. When did elves become mary sues? Am I missing something? D:

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo, Discword secrets! I approve!

12 He is pretty awesome.

20 Hell YEEEAAAHHH. Oldschool Nick was the best. I hate that whole "educational content requirement" the law's got going on now, because shit, that's not what cartoons are about.

24 Same. Not ashamed, though. Kinks are fabulous.

26 I think I've seen this secret before. Way back. Pre-100, maybe.

31 No fucking shit. IAWTC.

[identity profile] blackbubbletea.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
7. Man. Everything I hear about icon-maker circles makes them all sound crazy.

13. ...do you mean "beta?" Uh, hate to break it to you, but judging from the spelling in that secret you seriously need them, like it or not.

22. Uh...I'm gonna say it's because while the bulk of the rest of the cast is comprised of OMGBISHOUNEN, they are anthropomorphic cartoon animals. C'mon, really, what do you think the fangirls are gonna flock to?

31. Seconded.

33. HO SHIT GARGAMEL!

35. Not all elves are Mary-Sues...but many Mary-Sues are elves.

lol, discword.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's try that again.

Woo, Discworld secrets! I approve!

9, 13

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally want to read Vetinari/Random Young Straight-Guy Virgin now. That's hawt.

WTF is a "beata"? FAIL.

Oh, and 13...

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Guys, stop trying to be smartasses by picking at the spelling. I mean, I agree, but the secret says that every beta this person gets just turns right around and leaves once they accept, which I would assume is why they dislike betas.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa, do I spy a Nirvana icon?

22.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Tons. You just have to know where to look.

5.

[identity profile] superkappa.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to see someone else hated that book. God, I wanted to just punch Jane in the face D

[identity profile] gynophobia.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
10. I AGREE! IT JUST WONT END! T_T!!!

22. I love Donald and Goofy. They don't get the love they deserve.

[identity profile] klytaemnestra.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)

1. What is that? It looks so familiar but I can't place it.

24. I feel you. Nothing squicks me these days and it's entirely fandom's fault.

26. I understand where you're coming from because I did have to deal with someone basically ripping off every fanfic I wrote, however it was more of a plagiarism issue for me. Plagiarism isn't cool, but if this person is just starting out and can't really help herself, why should it matter? You seem to be too wrapped up in it. Destroying fandom for someone just makes you seem like a complete bitch whore. You're not always going to like what people do in fandom and someone will eventually start ripping you off on a long enough time line. I've seen it done time after time to the point that some fics read like fanfiction of someone else's fanfiction. Just get over it.

32. Who? I'm terribly curious 'cos there were a few that left during that shit that made me kind of glad to see them go. I got so tired of the frakking martyrdom.

[identity profile] amandier.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
12. Pence is such a lifesaver! <3

16. Same here!

20. GOSH YES, whoever you are, I ADORE YOU, OKAY?! Rocko~'s modern life FTW!

35. There are people like that? What gives?

13

[identity profile] el-hustino.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite having already been said, the irony of this secret is too much for me to ignore.

If you dislike constructive criticism that strongly, then you should probably stop writing immediately, as you're doing nothing more than hindering the quality and development of your own writing and abilities.

...Seriously, 'beata'?

[identity profile] enjolras.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
10. RAN AND SHINICHI. ♥

20. Then... I am okay? Because Rocko was one of my FAVORITE shows growing up. :DDD

22. So many people hate the Disney characters. I don't see how you can play the game if you do, but whatever. :\

6.

(Anonymous) 2007-09-14 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I call that my junior year of high school. Except it wasn't for Diskworld and it wasn't femmeslash.

[identity profile] valkyriur.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
#20, I love that show so much.

#28, I hate it when people combo names. It's so stupid. You can't tell who people are talking about unless you know the show when they do it; even if you do, I've seen some combos that I couldn't make heads or tails out of. /rant/

#13

[identity profile] fallia.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me be real blunt about this, because you need to hear it. What your situation tells me is that people see potential in your writing, but as-is it sucks.

The fact that people volunteer to beta for you? Means people like your ideas. That's good. On the other hand, it means that your writing itself is clunky and difficult to read. The fact that you never hear from these people again? Means that you're either rejecting their suggestions or that they are overwhelmed by the technical problems with your writing.

Bottom line: your writing is detracting from your stories, but people are still interested enough to want to help you. Get a good grammar book, learn it, and love it. Then learn to be receptive to constructive criticism and stop hating on people who want you to succeed.

20. OMFG, ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE. ♥

If Beetle doesn't come back, I'll probably storm the DC offices. Nothin' better than blue and gold.

[identity profile] loquaciousquark.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
13. This secret made me lol. If you think it's "beta," then you need one.

(Anonymous) 2007-09-14 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
DITTO THAT.

Re: #13

(Anonymous) 2007-09-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So much word for this reasonable and sound comment.

Bloomers and petticoats aren't exactly the sexiest of undergarments.

I'm sure all the fetishists out there would beg to differ. XD

Leave it to Japan to steal an English word and put it to hilarious use. I like the style as I love cute things, but it's just so over the top I see them as costumes not as normal everyday clothes. I can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars on the brand name stuff anyway, cute as it is.
