Then you probably don't like me. :( During my time of reading mostly fantasy books, I think I've come across in total two elves that I liked (and they were, unfortunately, not main characters), but usually, they are a bunch of Marys. Then, maybe I was just unlucky with books, but whenever I come across books where the main characters are elves nowadays, I run for the hills, just in case; never again I will force my brain to get through the stories of Elevnmaid Auroíuôella, translation Prettyladywondervoicewithgoldenhairandsunshineinhersilverorbs (*example name, but you get my problem).
All in all, it's not the elves' fault (how could it be, they're fictional), more that of crappy authors who think this race is their free ticket to stop developing believable characters. Good authors can make them likeable. But that's nothing new in literature.
