Re: Fandom Justice

I admit I've never watched an episode of Supernatural and I'm not in the fandom at all, but I remember hearing recently that a male character and a female character were infected with something (... Werewolves?), and the male character was cured and the female character was killed (with some sort of line like "Burn in hell, bitch")? Er... I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about and might be combining two different plot-lines or something. I also thought one of the actors had called out the sexism on the show just recently?

.. Again, have literally never watched an episode, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Both. I think the show is okay, but with the resurgence because of Girl Meets World, I just don't want to see it.

I also block Daria and Arrested Development for the same reasons.

I cry prettly much constantly during How I Met Your Mother. =P Though I'm prone to crying at media fairly often, I find that I cry less in more dramatic type shows for sure.

Though I'm not sure how much of that is because of how much I relate to Ted or not.

In the GLTAS finale, I wanted Aya to actually go through with her plan of /HEY, spoilers...eradicating all life in the universe and taking it back to before possible life.

Re: Malcolm in the Middle

Ahah, I'm still having trouble watching Breaking Bad. I don't see myself watching it much any time soon (my live-in boyfriend is a recovering Methhead, so he tends not to watch shows that deal with it), but before him a lot of my friends really enjoyed it and I tried and I tried and I was just waiting for him to do something idiotic and adorable. This was especially bad because I had just finished rewatching all of Malcolm in the Middle when people were really trying to get me into it. Like, less than a month ago had I finished rewatching MitM.

I might start watching it again when the boyfriend and I break-up though (I'm moving out of the country, so when I do we're parting ways). I hear it's much less bad once buddy shaves his head.

Adding to the list. Used to love it as a child, and rewatched it last year and it was still wonderful.

Supposedly he got oil poured on him during the attack of Dragonstone, but it's prolly a lie to fuck with Cersei's head. Tyrells keep winning the game.

I'm not too keen on the PS4. But the backwards compatibility thing was what got me with the PS3. I was pretty annoyed. I still had my PS2, so it wasn't so bad for a while, but then my PS2 broke and I had a sad.

Then I was given a new PS2, which is awesome, but I really don't see why they can't make their damn consoles backwards compatible. I mean, I know it's apparently way more expensive to do so, but I cannot see a single reason why it would make more money to not let people play your games on your newest system. It's not like they're going to unbuy the PS2 or the PS3.

Re: Xbox One news

[personal profile] poisonenvy 2013-06-08 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, guess I'm not geting an XBox One. The 360 was my first Microsoft system, and though I liked it a lot, I tend to play my PS3 a lot more (and always try to get games for the PS3 if they're not exclusives), so I guess I'm not too too bummed out.

I don't even understand the checking in ever 24 hours thing. What kind of purpose does that serve? I mean, I don't even always turn on my TV every 24 hours. What if you go on vacation? What if... well, literally anything at all happens that stops you from getting to your console? If you're on vacation and you decide to check in on another console, does that mean you need to make it back to the house you're staying at every hour just so you can keep playing your games? What if you're flying across the world on one of those 20-hour flights (assuming you don't have any exessively long layovers)? Are you supposed to just drop everything and find an Xbox as soon as you get off the plane? I mean... that just sounds really, really fucking dumb.

I thought I was asexual for a while too. Then I thought I was a lesbian for a while. Then I realized I really enjoy penises, so I've finally settled on bi (or pan, for people who really want to differentiate between the "Bi people only like cis people!" thing, because I really don't care too much) who leans more toward men than women.

LOL! "Let's see you transcribe that!"

I think I'd be happier if it had been posted for that reason.

SA. I'd think so but there are undoubtedly people out there who don't view pedophilia as automatically non-con.

Tumblr Savior

[personal profile] lirren 2013-06-08 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Not everyone even has Tumblr Savior. I can't get it to work on my laptop, no matter how hard I try, and how many people try to troubleshoot it for me. It won't work. Plus, from what I've seen on my dash, every time Tumblr upgrades or changes something, Tumblr Savior stops working for a while. Assuming that everyone can/does use something that's not an actual part of the site is disingenuous.

This is Grey's Anatomy, isn't it? I'm glad it's working for you but everything about that character and her storyline has irritated me from day one. Even though everyone called her "princess" (because her actress played Kate Middleton in a Lifetime movie, I think), her character was established as having this huge tragic sob story of a background involving homelessness and foster care, so it's not inconceivable that she'd know how to lay the hurt on someone.

Unless "15 years older" was a typo, it seems this brother of hers is 36, not 15. Wow.

I agree 100%. I didn't believe the 24 hour thing either until Microsoft said it themselves; I thought for sure there was no way a company would go with something that unnecessary, complicated, and insulting to their fanbase. Beyond that it's just bad business and like you said, it limits their userbase in a big way. I'm foreseeing A LOT of returns from people who don't fully understand the requirements of the console only to get it home and realize it isn't what they were expecting or wanting.

And even if you do have access to reliable broadband, the whole idea of MS checking in on their users daily to make sure they're accessing video games 'properly' is patronizing as fuck, especially when those users are paying a yearly fee to access Live in the first place.

Tell me about it... The products you buy on/or for the console aren't really in your hands even when you pay for them. You can only use them the way Microsoft sees fit, which isn't going to go down well with gamers. (Or anyone else, I imagine.)

IKR?! I can't remember where I heard it but someone made an analogy of MS' approach with the Xbox One; it's like they're trying to sell you an ice cream sundae by describing the cherry on top. Nobody buys a sundae for the cherry.

That's an apt analogy! Microsoft isn't going to sell a lot of sundaes, I think. This will bite them in the ass big time, and part of me thinks they'll have to scrap the whole online thing and go with something simpler if they want to salvage their reputation. If they would do that or not idk, but we'll see what their reaction is when the console is released. (And most likely doesn't sale.)

Yeah, that seriously creeps me out. I don't think someone will watching 24/7 but what if it gets recorded somewhere, Or how long will it be before someone figures out how to hack into it?

speaking of boy meets world, the episode where eric wanted to adopt a little boy but in the end realized it was best for the child if he were adopted by snother family killed me a little. tears were definitely shed

to a lesser extent, the episode where the lunch lady at their school dies also made me tear up especialy when mr feeny said something to the effect of "she never had children biologically but she always said she had 700 sons and daughters (referring to the students)"

Re: Xbox One news

I will certainly not be buying an Xbox One EVER.

But I'm kind of pissed at myself, because I've been wanting a Kinect for my 360, and I was really happy to see the price at my used place drop by about $20 (and there were several available, which is rare) after the One was announced. I didn't buy it then, because it's a weight reward, but I checked prices again yesterday and there's oly one available and it's popped up by about $40, presumably on the news of how shitty Xbox One sounds.

I think on things like this, I'm just going to have to exercise some self control, and if I can ever find one cheap again, buy it and make it a "can't USE until XYZ" thing. Maybe ship it to my parents, if I buy online.

Re: Xbox One news

(Anonymous) 2013-06-08 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not an expert on the subject, so if I'm wrong about this, I apologize in advance. But here's how I understand the not-making-it-backwards-compatible thing:

With the PS3 (at least at the beginning; I'm not sure about right now) and (presumably) the PS4, Sony is already selling each system at a lower cost than it took for them to make the system. Basically, they sell it at a loss, and make up for it by the games sold, etc. It's a risk. The more expensive they make the system, the larger risk they're taking. By that logic, it would make sense for them to choose to not include the features they believe are not necessary.

(To be fair, I disagree-- I love backwards compatibility.)

Again, I'm not sure if this is correct. It's just cobbled together from what I picked up from half-listening to, mostly-ignoring my older brother (who is rather well-informed about the video game industry) while he babbles on at me while I'm trying to do something else.
