I had this with Pacific Rim. The internet (well, Tumblr) made me think Mako Mori was going to be the offspring of Ellen Ripley and Commander Shepard, piloting a mech. What I got was... actually, something I liked better than that, but also completely different, and I couldn't help but feel that a lot of people had missed the point of her character, to have described her in such a fashion.
