F!S Throwback Thursday

"Fake Geek Girls" are a very contentious topic. Especially when video games get involved.

Some equally contentious topics: whitewashing, yaoi clichés, and cosplayer body types. (For bonus stupid, here's a bit of baseless slander related to the latter two secrets. The more things change, the more things stay the same, eh?)

I scrolled past the "fat cosplay" secret to look at what the yaoi cliches one was about (although the pic didn't display) and thought "huh, maybe shouldn't have chosen a pic of a woman who's actually fairly attractive as your example." Then I clicked on the next link and saw it was about that secret and was glad to see a bunch of people thought the same!

The fake geek girl thing was so stupid. I don't see why anyone would bother. The only girls that obviously weren't there for the content of the convention were those models that are hired to show their body while they wear t-shirts advertising some business or other. But that's not the same as someone who supposedly does it just for the attention. There's so many women involved in the industry as well as in fan stuff that this hopefully will not come up again any time soon.
