i can ssssort of get this? it'd be nice to find more women irl who are into games. but then, it'd be nice to find more men irl who are into games, too. and i mean like, they actually play a variety of games, they don't just play fucking call of duty over and over

I never understood this mentality. Why can't you be friends with male gamers? How is being a girl who plays games any different from being a guy who plays games (aside from being more likely to get harassed on MMOs)? This whole "girl gamer" thing is so dumb - a gamer is just a gamer IMO. :/

fellow ~gurl gamer~ (lol) here offering a different opinion from seemingly everyone else - I too wish I had some female friends who loved games. Having female friends is different from having male friends; neither is BETTER than the other, but it is different. I can't say I know any girls like the ones the OP describes but I have seen quite a few F!S secrets that fit the description...

I've been playing videogames since 1988, and never draw attention to my gender. Most of my vidya friends are male, but I do meet other femmes, and I don't care either way. Because unlike you, I just care that I'm playing the goddamn game.

Agreeing with the whole "why can't you be friends with male gamers" sentiment. It's not as if there's a dire shortage of them out there. I mean, if I'm looking for female gamers specifically it's because they tend to be more active in fandom/more willing to rp/fic/etc. Tend to, of course. Not always; my two main fic betas/rp partners are gentlemen gamers.

I mean, I care more about the games than I do the fandom, and sometimes it's frustrating to talk to someone who says they're interested in your game, only to find they've barely played it, but all the same I like the fandom bits too.

It's frustrating enough to find someone who likes the same games as you do in real life, let alone selecting for people who play them exactly the same way as you do, for the same reasons, and have a specific set of chromosomes. As someone with those chromosomes and a varied taste in games who cares more about the gameplay than the slash, I'd offer to be your friend, but frankly you sound like kind of a douche.
