This is why I wince whenever "casual" and "hardcore" start getting flung around a discussion. How many points do I lose for liking Animal Crossing? Can I make up for it if my favorite Squeenix series isn't FF/KH, or will I also have to balance it with some of my import collection? What if I needed the street cred from those imports to make up for my love of Tetris?!

HOW DO PEOPLE QUANTIFY THIS SHIT, IT IS A STUPID DISCUSSION. :(

I mean, one of my first thoughts when reading this secret was "er... if you run into more people who like the slash than the gameplay, you're not playing any hardcore games" but then there's a whole thread on here about how the games that I play wouldn't be considered hardcore games, and aaaagggghhh what does 'core' even mean anymore?

Because people who are fans of Nostalgic Nintendo Title 37 often don't consider FPS games hardcore, and we FPS players don't consider Smash Bros anything but casual, and certainly not Pokemon or Kingdom Hearts...

...Well, in any case, I think we can all agree that megaten is pretty fucking core. (But is Persona less core than SMT?!!)

I think it's only when people play it or talk about it to seem cool or skilled is where it comes off as completely lame. Just like how if a girl were to make a big deal out of the wide variety of video games that she plays just to seem like an awesome chick is lame.

but no seriously, it's great if people like it, but where i am it's basically either people don't play games or they play call of duty and nothing else. i just wish i could find someone who played other things for once??

I know, right? What's wrong with Call of Duty? Or Halo, for that matter. All the hatred for these two games reminds me of the stereotypical hipster attitude about people looking down on bands when they "sell out" and become popular.

Just because someone's favorite game is Call of Duty, that doesn't make them any less of a gamer than someone who plays obscure imported games in the original Japanese on the old school Nintendo. (It just means that it'll be easier for them to find someone to play with.)
