Male Entitlement

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it really help explain things like this http://groupthink.jezebel.com/i-dont-know-why-this-is-hitting-me-so-hard-1567833428/all ?

I mean I get it sounds nice common sense, but everyone knows how often that turns out not to be the case. Is there anything more then anecdata to support the influence of "entitlement"?

Oh. I thought OP was talking about the Groupthink blog, or about the specific thread that was linked.

None that has been presented, that couldn't easily be presented on the other side, too.

A sixteen year old girl was murdered today because she refused to go to prom with her killer. It's all over tumblr as male entitlement.

The problem with saying that male entitlement has anything to do with this crime takes away from the culpability of person who committed the crime.

dare i ask how? he's a boy. if the rumours are accurate, he got rejected and went apeshit. that's definitely male entitlement, but regardless, all men and boys are responsible for their actions no matter what societal perpetuation may or may not be behind it. it's important to figure out why he would do something like this. if all said is true then he murdered a teenage girl, with all her life before her, because she took it upon herself to make her own choices, one of which did not align itself with the desires of the boy.

Isn't the same way of thinking used to explain away all the violence white males have been doing? When the violence black males do are said to be true for all of them?

God, all you have to do is wander over to 4chan to see the male entitlement in action. It's horrifying how much hate and anger some men have for women. Especially the unattractive and/or fat ones that whine and rant endlessly about how "shallow" the hot/skinny women they want are, but then scorn/wish death upon any woman below their standards. They honestly feel they are entitled to these women just because they're men and want them. That shit doesn't go away once they're offline.

Right, because women and girls are never vicious when it come to being rejected by a guy hotter than them. Naaah.

'A man did it' =/= 'all men do it'.

Labelling something 'male entitlement' implies it's something all men, and only men, would do. In this case, that's not true -- not all men kill women who reject them; not all people who kill people who reject them are men.
