I live in Fargo, and I haven't seen the movie Fargo or heard about this. Is this actually about Fargo? There is only one Fargo in the world, right?

Oh, I see. The TV series is based on the movie.

I heard that the movie doesn't actually take place in Fargo? I just checked Wikipedia for the TV series and it takes place in Bemidji (Minnesota) haha.

I don't consider either Fargo or Bemidji to be small towns but then again, I grew up in an actual small town lol

it's one of the locations of the movie.

i don't really know what's considered big or small in america, but wikipedia tells me there's 13,000 chumps living in bemidji. yeah, that's definitely not small.

Actually, Bemidji's pretty middling-small for America. Minneapolis, which is the largest city in Minnesota, has a population of more than 3 million in the Metro area (about 400k in the city proper), and that's not even that huge. A lot of the movie takes place in the MPLS/St. Paul area--I grew up near the car dealership depicted, which was really surreal.

>_> well it is a good size city for the Midwest. Fargo!anon here thinks "the cities" (Minneapolis/St. Paul) are plenty big. Even Fargo is a decent sized city - the biggest in North Dakota, I will have you know. cough.

Oh yeah, MSP is about as big as I want to ever go. Plenty big enough for anything you want to do. And I've either been to Fargo or Grand Forks before, although not very often, and it was a fine city despite the fact that we make fun of it constantly.

Minneapolis's awesomeness shouldn't be ignored just because it's not a very big "big city". Even Fargo is actually surprisingly cool for a small (medium?) city. It's rarely portrayed in media and I think people think of it as a tiny conservative farming town where everyone has Minnesotan (North Dakotan? whatever) accents (well that part is true) but it's a (fairly liberal) university city, there's a lot of youth and art culture, and we were apparently voted the drunkest city in America, so there's that. :P

America is stupid goddamn huge, both population and area-wise. Most states have one or two gigantic cities, especially in places like the East and West Coasts (not so much the Midwest). It also takes like 7 hours to fly from one coast to the other, and pretty much 4-5 days to drive unless you physically do not stop (41 hours).
