I'm with you on the needing small projects! I never used to be that way; I really got into knitting maybe 7-8 years ago, and I could commit. I was really into lace knitting, mostly; my favorite project ever, probably, was the rosebud shawl: http://www.heirloom-knitting.co.uk/projects9.html

A close second is probably the baby fisherman sweater I designed; it was fun and kept my interest as I made it!

These days, I'm more into smaller projects; scarves, hats, socks, etc. Been meaning to make myself a set of gloves, but now that winter is (finally) ending, I'm putting that on the back burner.

I do adore KnitPicks; they're really my go to if I need yarn, because their stuff is so inexpensive and good quality. I never got the chance to knit with Malabrigo, but it is gorgeous. There are a couple smaller brands that they sell at my LYS that I really love; I like the homemade quality to it. Koigu is also a favorite, because it's so darn pretty.

That's a really pretty shawl. I love lace. My first shawl is still one of my favorite projects:

Congratulations on the sweater! I'm always so proud of myself when I manage to make something without a pattern. I was also really proud of the two sweaters I made, but unfortunately I gained weight soon after making them so I can't wear them(grr, medication :/).

I've been meaning to try Koigu at some point but I haven't bought any yarn in a while. I'm trying to stick with what I have in my stash for now.
