On a certain level, that show can be seen as a female fantasy. Every week, some ordinary young lady is going about her ordinary business when all of a sudden she's caught up in a wild adventure with two really attractive men! There's kissing and shootouts and mysteries and deathtraps, and then the day is saved and the ordinary young lady goes about her business unharmed, having made out with either Ilya or Napoleon (usually Napoleon). What's not to like?

OP

I hadn't thought of that, anon. Yes it definitly works as a female fantasy! Although it's definitely a male fantasy too. ;) Debonair men, having adventures and capturing the hearts of beautiful women around the globe.

Dude, it was VERY clear that the writing was geared towards SOMEBODY's fantasies - I mean, the sheer number of times that the boys ended up in chains, or bent over something, or got dropped into water (particularly Illya) was ASTOUNDING. That's the other thing about it- sure, it highlighted the sex appeal of the women, but it made ZERO bones about also sexualizing the GUYS. Hells to the yes, with the loving focus on muscles and asses - hell there's a marvelous shot of Illya undoing his belt to remove some microfilm conveniently stashed in its buckle, and Napoleon takes the film and TAPS ILLYA'S CROTCH WITH IT, all while they eye each other. Or a marvelous focus on Illya licking a stamp. Or Napoleon's "Yes, I am doing my hair in the middle of a high profile spy meeting in front of my boss and everyone I know, aren't I dashing?" Yes, it sexualized EVERYBODY and EVERYTHING and that's why I love it.
