Re: How many series do you follow right now?

Yep, it was announced a couple weeks ago I think? I haven't seen any spoilers about how she leaves but the next episode is apparently about her and Steve going to Afghanistan or something so I know people are speculating that she'll get killed on that trip.

I agree! It was their relationship that I loved at first, and ended up loving Chin and Kono's too. I haven't been loving the show lately for the same reasons, less Steve/Danny and Kono being gone for so long, but since I'm weird and have a hard time giving up shows even when I don't like them much anymore I kept watching lol

I liked Catherine in the past, too. When they announced that they were making her a regular, I was excited, especially since that was right after the Lori disaster, but I really haven't liked her this season at all. She seemed to kind of take over the show, especially with Kono gone. And yeah, I don't get Steve/Catherine, either...I personally don't see any chemistry between them and half the time it seems like he barely likes her.

And yeah, it's mainly all the Twitter/social media stuff. I'm not sure I know the story about the Facebook thing but I know there's been a bunch more that's happened since the original stuff, and I don't know the details of all of it. But what I do know of it, she came across as really unprofessional and immature to me, and that definitely made me dislike the character even more than I already did (I was already kind of meh on her since she wasn't really doing anything on the show and was just taking time away from Kono).

I know people have been complaining for a couple seasons now that there hasn't been enough of the main four, so I'm hoping they'll get back to that. They have added the two new regulars for next season (Chi McBride and Jorge Garcia) but technically Max is a regular too so I'm hoping they won't completely take over the show and we'll get more Chin and Kono (and Kono in general) and Steve/Danny scenes.

Oh, wow. I might not have been digging her character this season but I hope they don't kill her off in Afghanistan to give Steve man-pain. IDK what's going on in his life right now, but considering how crazy this show is...he probably has enough anyway. She could move away for a new job or they could break-up or whatever, but I don't want her dead.

It might not have been pleasant to keep watching through the rough times, but at least you seem to be enjoying it more now and don't have to catch up later! I kind of regret dropping it now because I don't want to marathon nine or ten episodes. I would rather watch the mediocre stuff one episode at a time.

It did seem like they replaced Kono with Catherine, at least temporarily. I liked Cat, but not that much. And I agree about her and Steve... I liked when their relationship was friends with benefits; it fit them well. When they started to get more serious it felt off; Steve doesn't seem that invested in their relationship. (Like when he would call her up and ask her to do something for him, then immediately hang up? Lol, Steve doesn't seem like the relationship type of guy. And I ship him and Danno hard, but I stand by that. It's weird to see him as someone's boyfriend; he's not the best at it.)

Maybe that's why I haven't seen much of it on my dash? People are tired of drama. I'm surprised that the actress continued interacting with the fanbase on twitter after everything that happened last time; it made her look bad and probably didn't help her keep her job.

IDK how I feel about two new regulars, but maybe the writers will learn from this season. We can only hope! You're right about Max; I actually wish they would do more with Max rather than bring in new people, but...that's the way of things.

I kind of don't care how they get rid of her at this point, but the one reason I wouldn't want her to die is because it would give Steve more to angst over, and yeah, he has enough of it at the moment. Right now he's pissed at his mom because she's hiding something from him and it's so. damn. boring...I actually kind of tune out whenever there are scenes about it. I don't know of anyone that didn't hate the storyline with his mom last season but for some reason they feel the need to drag it out some more. I'm hoping that they'll resolve it once and for all in the finale, though, and then can move on next year.

I think the friends with benefits thing worked much better for them, too. You're right, Steve didn't seem all that invested in the relationship...I think he always acted more like it was a friends with benefits thing even when she was technically supposed to be his girlfriend. I mean, to me it comes across more like he thinks "well, she's here, why not?" than that he has any really deep feelings for her or anything. And as for him not being the relationship type, on the one hand, I totally see that, but on the other...I don't want to get into it since I don't know exactly how much you know of what happened in recent episodes and I don't want to spoil it.

I was surprised, too. I know back when all that stuff first happened people were speculating that she would get fired because of it and she was basically like "haha, I can say what I want and nothing's going to happen to me" which irritated me. I know a bunch of other stuff happened after that (and it apparently got even worse from what I've read) so when I saw she was leaving I felt like it had been a long time coming. (Of course, the official explanation is that she was written out for "creative reasons" but I can't help but feel like her behavior on social media is the main reason even if it's not part of the official public record.)

I'm not sure how to feel about it, either. Have you seen any episodes with Danny's new girlfriend? I don't really have much of an opinion on her either way at this point, but that could change depending on how they handle it next season...I just hope the writers learn from past mistakes and don't let it take over the show or interfere with the main cast. From what I've seen it seems like most people seem to think the show was best in the first season, and I pretty much agree. I don't know why they couldn't have just stuck with what worked instead of feeling the need to add all these extra characters that for the most part don't work, but I guess that's just the way it goes.

The show is STILL doing the 'mom is hiding things' storyline? WHY WOULD YOU CONTINUE TO DRAG THAT OUT?! Whatever she's hiding is going to be a complete and total disappointment after all this build-up. (And honestly, I'm with you, it wasn't even interesting, though I suppose it's meant to be. Steve's mother is not adding much to the show, and I feel bad about that considering how much he must have missed her when he thought she was dead.) Maybe they'll wrap it up in the finale.

Geez, what happened in recent episodes? Was it to do with Cat, or was it something he said to Danny? I know something 'big' apparently happened with them recently, but not what. I agree, I think Steve doesn't seem to be taking their relationship that seriously, even if sometimes the show will throw out a line about commitment. He doesn't seem into it. I don't know if that's just how he is, or if he just isn't that into Catherine.

Damn. I missed so much. I'm glad I didn't see the debacle then; she pissed me off the first time, but to know that she kept on after that is a bit shocking. Not only is that rude, it's completely idiotic and bad for your career. She should've thought about that before she started attacking people.

Danny has a new girlfriend? Oh boy. How long was he even single, about six episodes? I don't think now is the time to jump back into the dating scene, Danno. Oh well. I hope they do a better job with her than his last girlfriend, because occasionally I would just forget she existed; if you only have one small scene with her every five or so episodes I'm going to have difficulty buying your relationship. The first season was my favorite as well. I think I remember enjoying the second too, but nothing will compare to the beginning.

Re: How many series do you follow right now?

[personal profile] ghostofcairo 2014-04-27 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! It's ridiculous. I don't even totally know what's supposed to be happening right now. A few episodes ago Steve and Danny went to Cambodia, and...found an empty grave. And it's this big mystery who was supposed to be in it, and Steve found some hair that he took back to have Max run DNA on. And it went missing on the way to the lab, but he still had some, and there was some CIA dude who I think told him to stop investigating or whatever and then later on that guy's identity was basically erased and someone told Steve he never existed. And then he got some other CIA contact dude that he was supposed to meet in some random empty office building late at night or something and that guy ended up getting killed I think? And there's something about Wo Fat's mom being killed accidentally years ago and somehow Steve's mom was involved or something. I might be wrong about some of that because like I said, I kind of tune out when they're talking about that kind of stuff. And apparently something happened in last night's episode that made him even more suspicious of his mom. I've seen a couple people say that his "mom" that he's reconnected with recently is an impostor and his real mom has actually been dead all this time, and that maybe it was her that was supposed to be in the grave, but you'd think he'd have realized this lady wasn't actually his mom if she was a fake. I mean, he recognized her right away when he found her. Unless they want to make up some ridiculous story about her having plastic surgery or something I guess. I don't even know...it just needs to be over soon!

Oooh, if you don't know what the big thing that happened is then I definitely don't want to spoil it! But to answer your question...I guess a little of both? Like I guess it's technically about Cat but it's related to a conversation he had with Danny? Sort of? Or I guess you could say it's actually just about Steve...I guess it depends on how you look at it. I don't know, it's hard to explain without being specific and I know it's not supposed to mean what it seems to me to mean anyway. But either way, yeah, he doesn't seem to be taking their relationship all that seriously. And whether that's about her specifically or just how he is, or...whatever, I guess maybe we'll see next season when she isn't around anymore?

Yeah, she's been in a few episodes so far. I don't really know what to think of her at this point, but I guess she's ok. He had a conversation with Steve about her that was kind of...interesting, and I'm kind of curious to see where it goes from here. The way his girlfriends have been handled up until now...I'm not sure if it's supposed to have some point, or what. And...I don't know.

I have a feeling this comment probably doesn't make any sense.

WTF, so Steve's 'mom' might not even be his real mom? If that actually becomes true I will laugh so hard. Give the guy a fucking break already, will you? That's a little too soap opera-ish, even for this show. At the very least I can easily believe she would kill Wo Fat's mother because that lady is shady as hell. If she turns out to be an antagonist...Christ. Let's hope not, because I don't want her on the show that much or for that long.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, you've made me so curious. I'm going to go ahead and try to find the episodes...though it might still be a bit before I catch up because I'm behind on everything. I kind of want to ignore everything else and watch because now I'm excited, but... we'll see, I guess.

and I know it's not supposed to mean what it seems to me to mean anyway

We're shippers, it's perfectly normal for us to read into things a bit! Plus, maybe there is something more going on? Maybe not what you expect, but...

I feel like Danny should know not to get advice from Steve about his love life (because, as mentioned, Steve doesn't know what to do with his OWN love life), but...it must've been a good scene if you're mentioning it!

It will make sense when I have some context, haha. It's okay, my fault for not watching! It probably makes more sense than whatever is actually going on in the show.

That's what I've heard, but as far as I know it hasn't actually been confirmed or anything, just what some people are speculating. I agree it would be too soap opera-ish, though, and I'm sure that'd drag it out even longer. Honestly, whatever needs to happen to wrap the storyline up the soonest is what gets my vote.

I wouldn't drop everything to catch up or anything...there's some good stuff, but there's also a lot of really boring episodes. That's not to say don't get caught up if you want to, but I will warn you that there's a lot of not so great episodes to get through. I mean, there are random little cute moments in various episodes but since you mentioned you're 9 or 10 behind, that's like 7 or 8 before it starts getting good. Basically all of the stuff that everyone's been freaking out over lately happened in 419 (and apparently 420, the most recent one, had some good McDanno stuff too so I've gotta track it down).

We're shippers, it's perfectly normal for us to read into things a bit! Plus, maybe there is something more going on? Maybe not what you expect, but...

Haha I suppose! (I'd had a long thing written here, but it's way too late and I'm tired and I was sounding a bit insane so I'll have to save that thought for later.) And I'm not totally sure what you mean by something more going on but I like the sound of it!

I feel like Danny should know not to get advice from Steve about his love life (because, as mentioned, Steve doesn't know what to do with his OWN love life), but...it must've been a good scene if you're mentioning it!

It was an interesting scene! Technically it was about Danny's girlfriend, but it could be interpreted in a way where it applies to his relationship with Steve as well...if someone was inclined to do such a thing, that is...

I think I'll try to catch up with what's on my DVR first, but I'll try to get back to H50 pretty quickly because if I don't know, I'll have even more to watch. And as much as I like the cast, I don't want that. lol.

All I meant was that maybe his advice reflected his own feelings about relationships and maybe hinted at his relationship with Catherine, or what might happen with them in the future. Which I guess is rather obvious...but, yea. lol. I would've loved to heard whatever long, insane comment you had typed out, but maybe some other time. :p

but it could be interpreted in a way where it applies to his relationship with Steve as well...if someone was inclined to do such a thing, that is...

Well, without having even seen this particular scene, I know how I'll be interpreting it.

Re: How many series do you follow right now?

[personal profile] ghostofcairo 2014-04-27 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, ok. It was mainly focused on Danny, and not even just his love life, but his personality in general, and I was thinking of how his relationship with Steve fit into all that, but I don't remember the exact wording so it could've applied to Steve and Catherine as well. I need to rewatch that scene.

I'm pretty sure next episode is supposed to be her last, so I'm hoping they just break up because Steve realizes he's not that into her, or he's just not the relationship type, or he's in love with Danny but I have a bad feeling they're going to kill her to give him man-pain like you said. I guess we'll just have to wait and see though.

I will save the long comment for another time! I need to watch the most recent episode first and see exactly how crazy I am. :p
