Correct. It is my responsibility as a student to read emails from my instructor. It's an online course... they don't tend to be the most forgiving.

My financial aid situation was precarious due to having to withdraw last term for health issues. Pretty sure failing this class is going to put me in the "no more money for you, slacker" corner.

I would speak to the chair of the department. The date was originally different on the syllabus. You've got a good case for being allowed to take the test. I teach online and its highly inappropriate to change a date fir such a significant exam without confirmation all students have seen the change.

Perhaps. The date change was kind of snuck in ("blahblah otherstuff this time on this day blahblahblah") rather than obviously pointed out, which I guess is how I missed it.

All the chair or dean can say is no which will leave you exactly where you are. But they might say yes, so I don't think you lose anything to check.
