1. OMG, me too! I think they are gorgeous even if the stories and characters leave much to be desired.

35. OH I remember that manga, yeah and I hated Kou too, although I sort of didn't like how Ao kept some of the stuff secret, and that was sort of manipulative. But I don't think I liked any of the characters in that manga.

Yeah, for me is the same. I mean, you have an amnesiac cheater, a damn bastard who hides a big part of his lover's past to him and the third guy isn't nice either.
But I hate Ao the hardest because what he did was awful. At least Kou was honest in his cheating. Oh, nice oxymoron.

I think looking back on it, I think Ao really set himself up for it. He guilt tripped and manipulated Kou into staying with him, even though he knew that it wouldn't work. I mean yeah he is devoted, but there is a point where you just have to let go and move on.

Off topic: I love your icon, I am not much of a yaoi or slash fan in general but I love Touya and Yukito.

Yah, that's why the secret annoyed me... it left out a BIG part of why Kou ends up leaving him.
You know, if you really love someone, you go and tell him the truth up front.

OT: He, they're sooo sweet.

I don't think just because he was honest in cheating, he should be let off. Ao, honestly, did one big bad... but he lives with that guilt everyday. Kou? It's almost as if the number of times he has gone drunk-and-cheating has lessened the severity of it. Sure, Ao appears alright with it, but Kou doesn't really stop and think about the pain cheating brings.

And there's that second time Kou sleeps with Mikuni. Kou wasn't drunk then.

It's just that I find Ao's actions absolutely reprehensible. So Kou cheats. Many people do and are not that honest... Ao could leave him any time he wanted but he doesn't because he has that lingering guilt and fuck, he should.
What Ao did to Kou is... it takes out the equality of their relationship. I just think that cheating and taking advantadge of an amnesiac person who has suffered a terrible action are on different levels.

To be honest, I don't think Ao had originally wanted to take advantage of Kou when he got amnesia. Sure, he omitted truths. But when Kou got amnesia like he did, he didn't come to the hospital intending to erase Mikuni (he wasn't even sure how far the relationship had progress) from Kou's mind... he came there to help his friend. He didn't even take that step forward until he slipped and kissed Kou like he did... It was only when Kou welcomed that kiss that things started to kick off for them romantically.

In that situation Ao found himself in, it's natural the right thing Ao should have done was tell Kou straight up when they were starting the relationship that there was another guy he was lovers with. But, I think it was also natural for him to flounder and make a very bad decision... he was desperately in love. In that situation, I think many people might be tempted to "omit" the other guy, because after all... the amnesia happened for the reason, didn't it?

I think another reason I dislike Kou is the fact Ao wasn't exactly a horrible lover all that time. He was patient, caring, and loving. This doesn't negate his sins, but it would have been nice to think on all those things in-between for a moment, before storming off, and soon after having sex with the other guy. It would have been fine if he still left Ao after acknowledging that 7 years that passed, because face it, Ao screwed up bad.

This reminds me of Yaeko from Heroes...

It still really bothers me, and it is precisely for what the above commenter said. It is just, Ao's actions didn't set up for an honest relationship, and just because that wasn't his original intention doesn't mean he still wasn't taking advantage of a person in a weaker situation, who had no recourse in the matter. And to me that is reprehensible, no matter how tempting it is, it is still manipulative and problematic for a long lasting reaction.

Not to say I condone Kou's cheating, because that was horrible too, and I think at the very least Kou probably should have re-evaluated his feelings for Ao and his relationship just based on how much he cheated, although I think that part of the reason Ao lets him get away with the cheating is that it keeps Kou the reprehensible and guilty one in the relationship. So in the end, I think it was probably a good thing that they didn't end up together, because a relationship based on guilt and shame is never a good thing.

I honestly think Ao lets him get away with cheating simply because he's a hopeless romantic. Not necessarily to make Kou guilty... The way I see it, he stays because he likes/loves/obsesses over Kou, and Kou's choice not to break up with him all this time, allows him to cling with a, sort of, clear conscience. "If he wanted, he could break up with me." That kind of thought...

Yeah, it probably was. Them not ending up together. Kou would have ended up cheating and cheating all over again. At least after this, Ao would think twice about not being completely honest... it still kind of hurts to see him broken after Kou left him, though. Even if he deserved it, absolutely.

Oh, this conversation reminded why I didn't like this manga and I usually like Koide Mieko.

Oh, no. I don't think he was a bastard either and I believe the situation was a hard one and he didn't think at the time that it'd last so long. But not telling Mikuni? That's why I find more reprehensible, more... premeditated. To lie to the guy he knew was in love with his friend is what makes me dislike him so much.

I'm following Doki.Doki, if they ever finish it and I don't remember that. Does it happen after chap. 8 or is just my bad memory?
And I get your position now. :D The secret read like you were excusing Ao and turning him into a saint, but I see you just like him more than you like Kou. XP

But, see, he does later own up to Mikuni. He takes a while, but he talks straight to Mikuni... but eh, well, when you see it~!

Actually, I've read farther than Dokidoki. I download the raws from aarinfantasy, and the series is up to the fourteenth chapter in raw? It's only in Japanese though, and my Japanese is non-existent... still, it's easy to see what happens :-X

And eeeh ~! Ao is horrible ♥ See, when I first read the series, I absolutely cheered for the pain Ao was feeling. He completely set himself up for this, and it was delectable to see his suffering... but then Kou started getting worse, for me, anyway. I mean, I understand: The guy lied to you, leave him! But the way he does it, and sleeps with Mikuni while they're still in the relationship... If you don't want to cheat, then break up. Mikuni couldn't have summed it up better.

I think it's horrible that Ao didn't tell Kou either. I don't think Ao is manipulative though; more on the lacking in self confidence... I think, the reason he never got to tell Kou is because he was afraid that, otherwise, Kou would never stick with him. And we're talking about someone who has been friends with Kou since youth... he had the qualities to stand a chance with Kou but he didn't think it was enough.

I secretly wish he would get run by a car too, if he doesn't get Kou. He'll be happier that way! ♥

I don't know if I could wish any character to be hit by his bus, and certainly not because he didn't get his love interest.

And you could say that it was a self fulfilling prophecy for Ao then, because he put that forth and thus became his own downfall, that and the fact that the entire relationship was based on a lie.

It's the advantage we have as mere readers, and them being mere fictional characters. I admit I have a rather sadistic streak.

Mmmhm.

I still hate Kou most, whether or not he decides to stick with Ao or Mikuni.
