Fucking amen. The whole reason I love FF, all FFs (even FFV, sort of), is that they manage to mix this campy silliness with genuinely touching or intriguing moments.

You have Cecil struggling to deal with his relationship with Golbez...and then you have THE LUNAR FREAKING WHALE.

You have Terra realizing her humanity...and KILLING CID WITH FISH.

And, while FFVII isn't one of my favorite FFs, it really embodies this particular strength of the series better than most. So much crack. WTF crossdressing Cloud and breeding chocobos and THE HOT TUB. But also, Aeris dying and Cloud's own issues and all that. Not particularly amazing or original, but the combination makes it work. ♥
