I'm not OP but now I'm wondering if I might not actually be asexual as I assumed and that I might just be having this problem-- there are totally celebrities that I find attractive and that I adore (and fictional characters too) but never anyone in real life, at least not since I was in college.

But then I never imagine being sexually involved with any of those people so maybe not :P

I'm asexual too, and I've never really been attracted to a real person. I've been in relationships prior to realizing my orientation, but even kissing just grossed me out way too much. I'm ok with hugging, but anything vaguely sexual really doesn't work for me. I'm not interested in real people, but I have crushes on a few fictional ones.

Mind you, the fictional characters I have a crush on all read as asexual to me as well, so if there was ever the extremely-impossible and unrealistic chance we were in a relationship, we probably wouldn't do anything. Probably just go eat dinner and watch Netflix all day.
