Bacalao (Puerto Rican cod fish stew)

When I was a kid, my relatives would always make this when they would visit my house. And the smell. Oh God, the smell. It would get into the curtains and even after the family left, the stench would linger in the cotton curtains. Luckily, my mom, who is also Puerto Rican, never bothered to learn how to cook it. So we were spared this dish for the remainder of the year.

And the taste was just as bad as the smell.

No....no...no...if I ever have a trigger it would be the word "bacalao". The mere mention of it makes my toes curl and my face twist in a grimace.
